   Home Assistant What’s New August 2026: Port 8123 Removal, Web Server UI & Safer Configurations

   Home Assistant 2026.8 focuses on making the platform easier to understand, configure, and use without reducing its flexibility or technical capabilities. Rather than introducing one major headline feature, this release delivers a wide range of smaller improvements that remove common obstacles for both new and experienced users.In this episode, you will learn why new Home Assistant OS installations no longer require the traditional port 8123 in the web address. We also explain how important web server settings, including the port, network interface, and trusted proxies, can now be managed directly from the user interface instead of relying entirely on YAML. A new rollback and confirmation process helps prevent users from accidentally locking themselves out after changing network settings.The episode also covers Home Assistant’s effort to use clearer and less intimidating language.
