Juneteenth
What is Juneteenth? [Corrections: Shay misspoke in this episode-slaves were free in 1865 not 1965] ***Juneteenth, also referred to as Jubilee Day, commemorates the day that slaves in Galveston, Texas were notified of their freedom. News of freedom for the 200,000+ slaves in Texas did not come until about two and a half years AFTER the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
