The commission given by Christ was, in short, to preach the Gospel and to make disciples. Without distraction, this is the fundamental aim of Hope Baptist Church and pray it remains that same focus well into the future.

   The Bible: Memorise and Meditate

   Memorise and meditate upon the words of God, the Bible. The most incredible aspect of the Bible is the revelation of Jesus Christ, who is seen as the world made flesh in John chapter 1. John 1:1–4 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Then we see in verse 14 of the same chapter this incredible revelation; John 1:14 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. When we memorise and meditate on God’s words we are changed. First from death to life, then transformed by the renewing of our minds.    Now 04/10/2026 2 Corinthians 6:1–10 1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. 2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) 3 Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: 4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, 5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; 6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, 7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; 9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; 10 As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. Urgency NOW 2 Corinthians 6:1–10 1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. Urgency We see this in the very first verse; 1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. The word “beseech” is not placed in the text for anything if normal value, if it were then the word “Ask” would have been sufficient, no, the word is BESEECH. We Implore you. We plead with you. There is an urgency to listen to that which comes next, for its value is infinite, it’s importance is eternal. The matter here considered is that of SALVATION. It is a matter of ETERNITY AND IT IS URGENT! We don’t think of eternity as much as we ought to, we are too often in danger of using words and phrases so often that they become too familiar to us and are simply treated as cliche rather than cutting us to the heart. Sound bites, TikToc clips, YouTube shorts, quick threads of INFORMATION are flashed before our eyes, THEY STIMULATE THE DOPAMINE and give IMMEDIATE gratification, BUT THE DOWN SIDE IS they all follow the law of Diminishing returns. You are stimulated LESS AND LESS and need to double the dose  to experience the same original intensity. They are all SATANS devices to keep you dumb and useless. Proverbs 4:26 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. We don’t sit there for any length of time and give deep consideration to matters. PONDER THE MATTERS THAT MATTER! Ephesians 5:15–16 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. ETERNITY, ETERNITY. What is it that matters for all eternity? How will my life be reflected in ETERNITY? Don’t allow such a concept to slip into CLICHE because you have heard it so often, for the matter of life that is before you is BOTH URGENT AND ETERNAL. 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. DO NOT BE DISTRACTED James 4:13–14 13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. LIFE IS FLEETING Ecclesiastes 9:10 10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. So the first thing we note in the text is that the matter forthcoming is URGENT, the SECOND is that it is ETERNAL.    Pt 32: Love and Liberty

   Love & Liberty 27th/09/2026 1 Corinthians 8:1–13 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. 7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. 8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.  9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. 10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?  12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. 13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. Beloved, there are those who attend to matters that do not add nor take away from their salvation. There are some, whom the text describes as “weak“, or immature in their faith, who see food offered to what they believe are idols, and will refuse to eat it because it is offered in sacrifice to an Idol. There are those who will only eat Kosher foods for example. There are butchers who will only serve HALAL meats and many who see such foods as “offered to Idols” and thereby refuse to eat it. Those who do eat it are judged by those who wont, and those who dont eat are judged by those who do, and LOVE is lost FOR THEIR LIBERTY. We offend our brothers when we eat that which they are offended by, and we judge our brethren who exercise their liberty in eating knowing that “an idol is nothing” in the world. But where is LOVE? Where is LIBERTY? Paul addresses both in this Chapter and adds to it our need for HUMILITY and perspective. Pray Our Lowliness Above Our Learning 1 Corinthians 8:1–3 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Doctrine 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, Paul is again addressing that which seems to have been enquired of him. We recall that the city of Corinth was certainly given over to Idols as a part of their current history and here we have an enquiry of what believers are to do respecting the matter. The “things” he refers to seems to be related to food. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols,…. 7 ……for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; ….. 8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. 10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those thingswhich are offered to idols; … 13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh whi
