She is the owner of <a href="http://www.maatpsychologicalservices.com/" rel="noopener" title="Maatpsychologicalservices.com">Ma'at Psychological Services</a>, a private practice in Washington, DC focused on promoting balance and restoring order to the lives of her clients. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of the District of Columbia that focuses on understanding and using traditional African cultural rituals for contemporary holistic mental health practices. She is a native New Yorker and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Howard University.</p> <p>Dr. Afiya and DrSis talk about her journey to becoming a psychohairapist, the valuable role haircare professionals can play in their clients' mental health, and her work in Cuba.</p>
