Mark 6:30-52 // The Feeding of the 5,000 (And the New Exodus) // Taylor Callen
What would it take to convince you that Jesus really is who He says He is? Another sign? A miracle? More evidence?
In Mark 6:30-52, the disciples watch Jesus feed thousands in the wilderness and walk upon the sea and still they do not understand, because their hearts are hardened. Through these signs, Jesus reveals Himself as the Shepherd of His people, displays the glory of the God of the Exodus, and exposes our deepest need.
We need more than a miracle before our eyes. We need God to perform a miracle in our hearts.

Mark 6:1-30 // The Christian Plan to Take Over the World // Taylor Callen
What does success look like in the kingdom of God?
In Mark 6, Jesus is rejected in His hometown, the disciples are sent out expecting rejection, and John the Baptist is executed for faithfully confronting sin. By the world’s standards, much of this chapter looks like failure. But Christ’s kingdom keeps advancing.
This passage challenges us not to settle for being impressed by Jesus, to kill the sins we are tempted to protect, to be ready to “dust off our feet” when faithfulness is rejected, and to learn to recognize the victories the world cannot see.
The kingdom of God does not advance because Christians always look successful. It advances because Christ is King, and faithfulness to Him is never wasted.

Mark 5:21-43 // The Thermonuclear Holiness of Jesus // Taylor Callen
A woman who has suffered for twelve years. A father who hears that his little girl is dead. What can Jesus do when every other hope has run out?
In Mark 5, we meet a Savior whose holiness overcomes uncleanness and whose voice raises the dead. Jesus offers more than comfort to get us through hard times. He died for our sins and rose again to make his people whole.
A crutch can help you walk toward a grave, but Jesus also can bring raise you out of one.
