Skip to the 6 minute mark to bypass my chatter in the beginning. Rawkus Records when I was growing was a big deal to me. Record labels like Rawkus, Stones Throw, Def Jux and more let me know that I potentially be not just be an admirer of hip hop but also a participant. Growing up in Ypsilanti, Mi a stone's throw away from Detroit, MI, Eminem coming out of Michigan was a big thing to me. You also have to take into consideration that a good majority of the music I was listening to came from napster or FYE. This was big a moment but one of the moments that solidified his greatness to me was his song Any Man that I had found. That later pushed me into the likes of Mos Def, Pharaoh Monch, Wordsworth, Talib Kweli and so many more. Lost in the sauce is an understatement. Covid has slowed down quite a bit but quiet minds always seek noise. Getting familiar again with music that he found or found him in his teens growing up in Ypsilanti, MI - fishing for hours on Napster and spending endless time on mixman's radio platform. House, Juke, Jungle, Techno and more introduced me to a whole new world of music and possibilities with synthesizers and samplers. Enjoy the listen and please leave comments and feed back.
