It's one thing to say Jesus is Lord. It's another to let him direct our steps. As we conclude our journey through John's letters, 3 John challenges us to examine whether we're truly living for the sake of Jesus' name or holding tightly to our own comfort and control. We're reminded that following Jesus means walking in his truth, using what we've been given to advance the gospel, setting aside our pride, and loving others personally.

2 John 1:1–13
As followers of Jesus, we're called to love others without compromising the truth of God's Word. In 2 John, we're reminded that truth and love aren't competing priorities. They belong together. Genuine love is shaped by God's commands, holds fast to who Jesus is, and refuses to support teaching that leads others away from him. The question for each of us to consider is whether we're truly walking in both truth and love.

1 John 5:13–21
John closes his first letter with a simple but serious warning: “keep yourselves from idols.” After spending five chapters showing us that Jesus is the real thing, John reminds us not to look for substitutes to provide what only Jesus can. God gives life and hears his children, he alone gives life, and he faithfully keeps his people in truth. Because of who God is, we can come to him confidently in prayer, trust him with the people and circumstances we cannot fix, and guard our hearts from anything that competes for our trust in Jesus.
