Welcome to How I Became Your Mother—the memoir-meets-manifestation podcast where I, a single and childless woman, speak my future into existence. Every episode, I share personal stories, lessons, and spiritual insights as if I’m talking directly to you—my future child—who will one day join me on this incredible journey.
Through candid storytelling and the power of the spoken word, I’m manifesting not just the life I dream of, but also the family I envision. This podcast is my love letter to the future, a space where past experiences and present aspirations converge to call in both the man and child of my dreams.
I’m your host, Kalilah Black—let’s journey together toward a life filled with hope, connection, and the magic of manifestation.
What does it mean to be a “daddy’s girl”… when that was never your story?
In this episode, I’m unpacking my relationship with my father—the version I had, the version I wished for, and the version I’m choosing to see now. This isn’t about a perfect bond. It’s about perspective, memory, and the quiet work of forgiveness.
I talk about how my understanding of him has shifted as I’ve grown… how some of the stories I carried shaped the way I saw myself, love, and being chosen… and what it’s looked like to release those stories without denying my experience.
This is me learning to see my father as a person. This is me softening without losing myself. This is me becoming… an unexpected daddy’s girl.
If you’ve ever had to make peace with a parent, hold love and truth at the same time, or redefine what a relationship means to you—this one is for you.

Delusional Optimism
What if the very thing people call “delusional”… is actually discipline?
In this episode, I talk about choosing optimism on purpose. Not because everything is perfect. Not because life has slowed down. But because I’ve decided that my perspective matters more than my circumstances.
Love has felt elusive. Life has felt full. The past five years have been a storm of caregiving, grief, growth, and rebuilding. And this last year? It’s felt like standing in the eye of it all — learning how to stay centered while everything moves around me.
I share what balance really looks like in this season.
The belief I’m releasing about my capacity.
The grace I’m choosing instead.
And the soul question that’s sitting heavy on my heart:
How do you feel about your relationship with your mother?
I also talk about what delusional optimism has actually gotten me in life — the doors it’s opened, the resilience it’s built, the risks it’s made me brave enough to take, and the way it has carried me through seasons that logic alone could not.
This episode is about faith that looks irrational.
Peace that doesn’t require perfection.
And the kind of optimism that builds the life you can’t yet see.
If you only remember one thing:
Balance isn’t stillness. It’s choice.
