[…] I loved the spy versus spy aspect of it and also the technological aspects of it. Even in his 20s, Bernstein saw how important encryption was going to be to the Internet. The internet was very different from today, and in some ways more decentralized, like anybody could pop into this not centrally managed network called Usenet, where there were a bunch of different topics that people could talk about, and there was this sci-fi part of it for science stuff and sci.crypt was for, well, the science of cryptography. And people were talking about all sorts of aspects of cryptography, including legal aspects and political aspects. […]
