Dr. Robin Williams on What You Need to Know to Prevent Breast Cancer
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Do you know the best ways to protect yourself? As it turns out, mammograms are just part of the overall recommended strategy. Renowned breast surgeon Dr. Robin Williams breaks down not only how mammograms work but why prevention is the best cure, how to be empowered when it comes to your breast health, and how to combat any fears you may have on the subject which, she explains, also applies to men, not just women. There is also good news: breast cancer is not a death sentence. Dr. Williams is a clinical associate professor and director of Breast Surgical Oncology at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. A graduate of The John Hopkins University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Williams has more than 30 years of experience as a surgeon. She also previously served as president of the Nashville Coalition of the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer and president of the Nashville Academy of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Williams has had board positions with the Midsouth Division of the American Cancer Society, Nashville, the Midsouth Division of the American Cancer Society, the Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition. Dr. Williams is also a recipient of numerous honors, including the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center Legacy Award and the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition Mary Jones Award. The Power of the Ask
There is so much power in simply asking for what you want. On this special "Motivational Moment" podcast, and inspired by her friend, Lori, who once asked her to speak at an event on the subject, Karen shares how simply asking for what she wants over the years has changed her life. She discusses personal examples and offers motivation for anyone who has ever hesitated or been too afraid to ask when it comes to receiving something they really want. This episode isn't about how to perform perfectly but simply about the best ways to put yourself out there.
