Ep 11: The International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse: A Conversation with Susie Hughes
In this episode of Human Rights Chat, New Tactics in Human Rights' host, Melissa McNeilly, speaks with Susie Hughes, cofounder and Executive Director of the International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China. The conversation delves into the harrowing issue of forced organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience in China, a practice that has been condemned worldwide. Susie shares her extensive work leading the coalition, which has grown into a powerful force for justice, coordinating over 70 organizations and more than 75 volunteers across multiple continents.
The episode explores the coalition’s efforts to raise awareness, prevent complicity, and push for accountability in the face of this massive human rights violation. A key focus is the 2019 China Tribunal, where Susie played a pivotal role as Director of Logistics, helping to bring global attention to the findings of this independent investigation into organ harvesting.

الحلقة الاولى: دردشة عن حقوق الإنسان - كسر الصور النمطية: المساواة بين الجنسين
لطالما كانت المطالبة بالمساواة بين الرجل والمرأة تشكل جزءًا أساسيًا من التطور الاجتماعي والثقافي في المجتمعات. يعكس هذا الاهتمام بتحقيق المساواة تفاعلات اجتماعية عميقة، حيث لا يقتصر الأمر على النقاشات السياسية والحقوق القانونية فقط، بل يتعداها ليشمل مجالات متنوعة مثل التعليم والعمل والمشاركة في اتخاذ القرار. هذه المطالبات لا تشكل ظاهرة حديثة، بل تمتد عبر العصور. حيث يعتبر أول مؤتمر لحقوق المرأة في الولايات المتحدة في عام 1848 نقطة بداية هامة، حيث تم التأكيد على الحقوق المدنية والاجتماعية والسياسية والدينية للمرأة، بما في ذلك حقها في التصويت.
منذ ذلك الحين، تسارعت هذه المطالب حتى وصلت إلى ذروتها. في 10 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1948، حين أعلنت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة عن الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان، الذي أكد على أن المساواة بين الجنسين أصبحت جزءًا لا يتجزأ من القانون الدولي لحقوق الإنسان، وفقًا لهذا الإعلان. هذا التحول التاريخي كان نتيجة للجهود المتواصلة لتعزيز حقوق المرأة والمساواة بين الجنسين. لكن هناك تحديات مستمرة تواجه تحقيق هذه المساواة، سواء كانت في تحديات الفهم الثقافي أو القيم المجتمعية.

(https://romena.ohchr.org/ar) تحمل درجة الماجستير في سياسات التنمية الدولية و لديها خبرة عمل متنوعة مع القطاع العام والمنظمات الدولية حيث عملت لعشر سنوات في الحكومة واسست اول مديرية لتسجيل المنظمات غير الحكومية وضبط عملها في وزارة التخطيط العراقية. كما عملت في العديد من المنظمات الدولية على مدى العقدين الماضيين المعنية بحقوق الإنسان منها صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان ومنظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة والبنك الدولي. مجمل الخبرة تصب في كيفية إدماج النوع الاجتماعي في السياسات والخطط الوطنية وإعداد استراتيجيات للنهوض بالمرأة و مناهضة العنف ضد المرأة وايضا دور المرأة في بناء السلام في دول المنطقة العربية. قادت ونفذت العديد من برامج بناء القدرات لمختلف الفئات من أصحاب المصلحة و بالاخص الموظفين/ات الحكوميين/ات في مجالي المساواة بين الجنسين والعنف القائم على النوع الاجتماعي.

Ep 07: The Silenced Project: Stories from Solitary Confinement
Despite international standards such as the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, and the Nelson Mandela Rules, which obligate states to treat incarcerated individuals with respect for human dignity, Solitary Watch estimates that 120,000 people in the US are living in solitary confinement (https://solitarywatch.org/2023/05/23/new-report-finds-more-than-122000-people-in-solitary-confinement-in-the-united-states/). These individuals are isolated in small, closed cells with no meaningful human contact for 22-24 hours per day.
On this episode of Human Rights Chat, New Tactics interviews advocates for prison reform in the US state of Michigan. Ep 06: Nobody's Listening: A Conversation with Yazda Nine Years After the Yazidi Genocide
In 2014, ISIS launched deadly attacks against the Yazidi people in northern Iraq. Thousands were killed, exiled, or forced into slavery. Nine years later, Yazidi survivors are still struggling to rebuild and reunite families, with little attention from the international community.

Afghanistan continues to face a critical educational crisis. Only 7% of children are able to read by the age of 10 and nearly 4 million primary age children- many of which are girls - are out of school altogether (https://www.unicef.org/afghanistan/education#:~:text=An%20estimated%203.7%20million%20children,60%25%20of%20them%20are%20girls.). The mission of the Charmaghz mobile library is to create space for critical thinking and Children’s Imagination in areas that have been heavily affected by conflict.

Ep 04: Healing, Incarceration and Policing: A Conversation with Ta'Mara Hill
Every year the U.S. spends $80 billion (https://www.aclu.org/issues/smart-justice) to keep more than two million people (https://www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/pie2020.html) incarcerated. The US makes up 5% of the global population, but holds 20% of its prisoners. We’re the global leader in a contest no one wants to win. U.S. police kill more than 1,000 people annually, and the data shows that BlPOC Americans are disproportionately killed and abused. The use of excessive force, violence and brutality at the hands of police are are common violations of human rights.
In this episode of Human Rights Chat, we speak to Ta'Mara Hill, Policy Officer at the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT), who works on building CVT's portfolio on US-based human rights abuses – targeting police brutality, criminal justice reform, and other related issues. Ta’Mara shares about her work in the Healing, Incarceration, and Policing (or HIP) program and policy initiatives to make change in Minnesota.
