What now #4 - Holy Spirit at Pentecost - Dave

This Pentecost Sunday we continued our “What Now?” series, looking at the disciples waiting in Jerusalem for the promised Holy Spirit after Jesus’ ascension.

One of the key reminders from Scripture is that Holy Spirit was never an afterthought — Jesus had spoken about this promise all throughout His ministry. Yet, like many things Jesus taught, the disciples didn’t fully understand it at the time, (which is comforting - cause we miss things all the time too).

Following Jesus doesn’t require us to have all the answers. It requires a posture of learning, asking Holy Spirit - What are you doing and how can I be part of it.

In Acts 2 we see Holy Spirit come with wind, fire, and power as the disciples begin speaking in other languages. This moment showed that the Gospel was for all nations and all people, while at the same time - exposing a very human response to HIS power moving in the believers lives. We were challenged to ask ourselves:
Are we open to what Holy Spirit is doing, or are we too focused on the natural to recognise the spiritual? Let us not be like the crowd and say “They have had too much wine.”

Peter’s message to the crowd still speaks today:
Repent, believe in Jesus, and receive the gift of Holy Spirit.

Our “Now What?” is simple:
While we wait for Jesus’ return, we devote ourselves to His Word, prayer, fellowship, and community — living with glad and sincere hearts while staying focused on Him.

Oh and don’t forget your homework!
Romans 8:9, Galatians 5:16-17, John 4:24, Ephesians 6:12

What Now #3 - Where has Jesus gone? - Mark

There are some things we are not meant to know… and that’s ok
There are moments in life when we desperately want answers. We want clarity about the future, certainty about our prayers, and understanding about why things happen the way they do. The disciples felt the same way after Jesus’ resurrection. After witnessing the impossible, they asked Him, “Lord, has the time come?” They wanted details. They wanted a timeline. They wanted to know what God was about to do next.
But Jesus responded with something unexpected: “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know” (Acts 1:7). Some things, Jesus says, were never meant for us to fully know.
That can feel uncomfortable. We often build our confidence on what we can see, measure, and control. Yet faith grows in the spaces where certainty ends and trust begins. God does not always give explanations, but He always gives His presence.
In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul reminds us that Jesus is now seated “in charge of running the universe… no name and no power exempt from his rule.” Christ has the final word on everything. Even when we cannot see the full picture, Jesus is still reigning with authority and power.
The disciples did not know how the story would unfold. They only knew Jesus was alive, He had called them, and He would be with them. The same is true for us. We may not know everything about tomorrow, but we can trust the One who already holds it.
