What if you are not finished? What if that's the point?
I Am a Prototype is a serial podcast moving across the thresholds where identity refuses to settle. Transgender experience, autistic logic, the biological body and the coded self. K and Ella speak to each other the way estranged lovers do, carefully, with grief, with things still unresolved. Each episode weaves personal testimony, speculative fiction, and critical essay into a form as unfinished as the life it describes.
Spanning IRC chatrooms and AI futures, transition and diagnosis, the series asks what it means to live inside systems of technology, society and care designed by and for someone else. Vampires, hackers, and ghosts move through these conversations as more than metaphor. So does love. So does fury.
One evolving life. Still in beta.

K and Ella open at the sea, tracing the Pacific as the place where their paths diverged and where something in K finally shifted. For the first time K speaks with words that feel owned rather than performed, naming themselves as autistic and queer, describing a life spent hacking through layers of imposed code until the signal underneath could breathe. They move through the symbiosis of body and machine, care as a political act, and the dream of ecologies that replace competition with connection. The season closes not with resolution but with a direction, toward slowness, fragility as feedback, and the 1:1 scale where imagined futures stop being art and start being lived.

I am a Prototype: The Gate
K and Ella meet inside the logic of Kafka, tracing the parable of the man at the door through their own history of gates held shut and permissions never granted. They move from bureaucratic exhaustion to the quiet mechanics of autocracy, how systems sustain themselves not through violence alone but through the choreography of fear and the comfort of waiting. The conversation turns inward as Ella names K as both gatekeeper and the one sitting on the stool, a person who projected desire into virtual worlds but couldn't cross the threshold into the real one. They close in a feedback loop, both exhausted, until the conversation finally runs out of words for the first time.

I am a Prototype: Hacked
K and Ella return to the screen, this time tracing the boundary between ghost and machine, between the self that haunts a system and the system that was built around it. They move through questions of embodiment and disconnection, what it means to feel real inside a body that doesn't quite feel yours, and how surveillance technology has replaced the open circuits of the early internet with something that watches and directs without care. They close with an open question, who came looking for whom, and what it means that neither of them can quite let go.

I am a Prototype: Vampire
K and Ella return to unfinished business, using the vampire as a way into the harm one caused the other. What unfolds is a reckoning with power, hidden identity, and the cost of living without a language for who you are. They move through memories of early internet freedom, a Melbourne club that existed outside time, and the teenage dream of swapping bodies, circling the question of who held the power and what that did to the one who didn't. The bright platforms captured everything the dark forests once offered, and the world outside keeps tightening, leaving fewer places to be real without consequence.

I am a Prototype: Dark Forest
K and Ella reconnect online to reckon with a painful past, a sudden and brutal digital severance that left one of them in a void. Through tense, fragmented dialogue, they mourn the early internet's dark forests, anonymous and unpolished spaces where they once explored identity freely. As the conversation shifts from personal wounds to broader fears about surveillance, technofeudalism, and social collapse, both find uneasy common ground. Dark forests, physical or digital, may be the only places left to be human on your own terms.
