Hands of the Mothers

Today is Mother’s Day in the United States. Our relationships with our mothers can be complex, or beautiful, or comforting, or even nonexistent. But one fact remains: we are only here because of them. We often take that for granted. A mother’s hands are always busy; they do so much. They provide comfort, they create things, they cook, they pray, they demonstrate affection, sometimes discipline… or harsher actions. And for those who think of the earth as Mother, her hands are everywhere, in every creature, every plant, every breath of air. Let’s hold hands with the Mothers today. Questions in Dialect: “On this Hand” (The Ghost Wishes to Speak 2007) Der Spyra: “Three Hands (Sequencer Sketch)” (Elevator To Heaven Pt. I) Phobium: “Take My Hand” (The Time Is Now) Infinity Sideways: “The Quiet Universe III: Her Hand Upon the Helm” (Astronauts 8) Petal: “There is a Gentle Hand” (Up From Here) Anantakara: “In Whose Hands is the Always” (Newt [At Whose Feet is Eternity]) onewayness + dRachEmUsiK: “A Handful of Dust” (A Handful of Dust – Live Improvisations Vol. 2) Fabio Keiner: “I am a child of mother earth” (lilith’s song) Sheleah Nahshon: “Mother Nature” (SANCTUARY) In the second hour, the live set is called These Old Hands. And it is for that reason that ʞu¡0ɹʞS will be taking a hiatus again for a few weeks.

Snow Tides

This long overdue episode highlights the music of Norwegian composer Erik Wøllo, whose album Snow Tides was released in early March of this year. He has been composing and performing since 1980, and his musical range is wide indeed -- from rock and jazz to experimental electronic and classical music. His works have been used in film, theatre, ballet, and art exhibitions. Although he has composed for strings, woodwinds, and larger orchestras, his primary instrument is guitar, and he uses it in extraordinarily imaginative and expressive ways. Today we will hear a sampling from his new album as well as some previous releases. Snow Tides Luminara Snow Tides Glacial Veil Astral Travelers Arctic Moon Falling Show, Whispering Tides Solastalgia Prayer for Rain Recurrence Stargazers Different Spaces Memory Space North Star North Star Earth Luminous Light and Ground I'll play live in the second hour (but not for the whole hour this time). The live set will be called Glacier Collapse. A glacier in Antarctica has been recorded retreating at the fastest rate in modern history. Our earth is changing before our eyes.

The Overview Effect

It takes an extraordinary team of people, with technology that defies imagination, along with exceptional courage, to send humans into space. Each time we do, we contribute to something greater than our individual selves. The successful Artemis II journey reminds us that together we are capable of great achievements when we focus on collaborating, working toward a common goal. Today we celebrate space travel. Cypress Rosewood: “Live at the International Spaceflight Museum Part 8” (Live at the International Spaceflight Museum) brokenkites: “Waystations in Space” (A Desaturated Version of Tomorrow) Incandescent Void: “Falling Through Timeless Space Eternal” (Aether et Umbra) M.NOMIZED: “Space Sailing Ship” (Minimal Stories) Dreamhub: “Zero Gravity” (Moments in Space) Jim Ottaway: “In Search of the Lost Star” (Deep Space Blue) Imaginary Landscape: “The Deep Space Between” (Undiscovered Landscapes) SPACECRAFT: “Explorations In Space” (Hummel) Brannan Lane: “Ambient Space Dreams” (Ambient Singles, Vol. 1) Robert Carty: “Enveloping Space” (Starlight Volume 1) In the second hour, the live set is called Greater Than Ourselves, and is a tribute to all the people who imagined and brought to life the Artemis II mission. “Staring Out At the Vasty Dark” “Love You to the Moon and Back”
