For 13 years, I lived with a secret that drove every aspect of my life. The person I am today only came into existence when that secret escaped. If you only know me now, you wouldn't have a clue what shaped me. And every person I meet is also changed and shaped by life. I want to know their before as much as I want to know their after. So here are the rules of the game. My guests must be people I already know. They cannot be celebrities or otherwise famous people, and I must be as willing to be open as my guests are. Consider this podcast the “be a tourist in your own city” version of an interview show. Join me, Scott Drochelman, as I try to understand all the quirks and nuances and flaws and wonderful things that make up the people I know.

13. My Dad
Welcome to another episode of I Thought I Knew You. I'm so glad you're here. Today we have a special episode with my dad. Growing up, my dad was good at a lot. He was athletic and adventurous and smart and handsome. He loved to read and was always trying to learn something new. He was intentional in the way he raised my brother and I. He worked hard to try to get it right. I remember hearing him practicing conversations he was going to have with us. I saw him cultivating challenges and experiences while driving us around the country in our minivan. He coached teams and made time for conversations. He always hugged me and he apologized for the times he got it wrong, and he has always believed in me and told me he was proud of me. I'm lucky to have him. You're in for a good one today. He is game for life. He answers when an adventure comes calling. He's dedicated to telling stories that make people feel seen. And is most satisfied when the people around him are elevated. 11. ALB
Welcome to another episode of I Thought I Knew You. I'm so glad you're here. Today we have a special episode with my friend Ashley Loeb Blassingame, or ALB for short. Ashley is maybe the most open person I've ever known. She's not afraid to hold up her mistakes and is constantly trying to evolve. She's someone who actually considers ideas when people suggest them, even if they seem opposed to her belief system. She's taught me so much about healing and how to find your way back from countless moments that seem insurmountable, and she's hilarious. You're in for a good one today.
