   I Bought the Perfect Gadget—But Couldn't Use It

   I bought Pocket because it seemed like the perfect device for me. It could record conversations, create transcripts, and pull out action items and to-do lists. The biggest selling point was the ability to use it with phone calls. Unfortunately, the hardware was not the problem. The app was not accessible enough for me to use the features I needed, so I returned it. That experience highlights a bigger issue I face whenever I consider new technology. A great device can become useless if the app that controls it is inaccessible. I also talk about a very different accessibility experience. When my Mac nearly ran out of storage and became difficult to use, ChatGPT helped me diagnose the problem and work through the fix in Terminal. It was a strong reminder of how valuable AI can be for people who are blind or have low vision. I also share details about the NFB of Pennsylvania scholarship raffle and give an update on Ziggy as he continues recovering after chemotherapy.    Am I a Creep for Wearing Smart Glasses?

   Are people who wear smart glasses creeps and weirdos—or are critics overlooking how blind people use this technology? In episode 300 of iCantCU, I respond to the growing backlash against Ray-Ban Meta and other camera-equipped smart glasses. While some people misuse the technology, blind and low-vision users rely on it to read signs, locate exits and restrooms, identify objects, and navigate unfamiliar airports, hotels, and convention spaces. I also recap my trip to Austin for the National Federation of the Blind National Convention.    Giving Rokid Style Smart Glasses One Last Chance

   In episode 299 of iCantCU, I give the Rokid Style smart glasses one more chance after a string of frustrating failures with voice commands, recording, and general reliability. With some strange iPhone issues possibly contributing to the problems, I'm heading to the Genius Bar before leaving for Austin and the National Federation of the Blind National Convention. I also talk about the word "blind" and why people should not be afraid to use it. Blindness is not a dirty word, and dancing around it often makes things more awkward than simply saying what it is. I also touch on why braille still matters, especially for blind students learning spelling, grammar, and the written word.
