[…] One would mostly focus on the kind of political lobbying or liaisoning that the Hindu mutts would do. And this is just to flag to everybody. This is across party lines. It doesn't have to be just for a political party. And this gets an enormous amount of attention. But the understated bit was how influenced and embedded they are within the society. particularly through their societal or rather philanthropic work that they conduct. And again, the scale and institutions that they generate is quite understated. So I was very keen when I got into economics to try and put these two things together, the political aspect and perhaps the kind of developmental impact they may have together. […]
