Taking on Big Tech & Advocating for Youth Mental Health (with Arielle Geismar)

This week, I sat down with Arielle Geismar, a youth advocate and digital wellness organizer who’s been making waves since she was 16. From leading one of NYC’s biggest student walkouts to now co-chairing Design It For Us, Arielle has been on the front lines of gun violence prevention, mental health advocacy, and tech ethics—often all at once. We talk about what it’s really like to grow up in advocacy work, how she’s built community both online and off, and the internal growth that comes with pushing for external change. Arielle’s perspective is raw, reflective, and grounded in the kind of wisdom that only comes from doing the work, even when it feels heavy. She also opens up about the advice she’d give her younger self, launching a digital wellness check-in on Instagram, and what it took to run for student body president—on the very last day to file. This conversation is for anyone who feels overwhelmed by big issues but still believes in building a life that’s meaningful and beautiful. What You’ll Hear: ✨ Why she says “it’s going to feel terrible—and then you’ll know what to do with it” 📱 How the self care check-in started after losing a close friend 🧠 The intersection of mental health and tech 📍How she organized one of the biggest NYC walkouts as a teen 🧩 What it’s like to advocate for deepfake legislation 💬 Why “you are so much more capable than you think” 🏛️ How she made a gap year in D.C. a launchpad for change 🎯 The power of trying—even when failure feels public Follow Arielle: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ariellegeismar/ (https://www.instagram.com/ariellegeismar/) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ariellegeismar (https://www.tiktok.com/@ariellegeismar) Follow Design It For Us: Website: https://designitforus.org/ (https://designitforus.org/) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@designitforus (https://www.tiktok.com/@designitforus) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/designitforus/ (https://www.instagram.com/designitforus/) Links & Resources: Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/idkaboutyoupodcast (https://www.instagram.com/idkaboutyoupodcast) Follow us on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@idkaboutyoupodcast (https://www.tiktok.com/@idkaboutyoupodcast) Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/idk-about-you/id1795373597 (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/idk-about-you/id1795373597) Subscribe to us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@idkaboutyoupodcast (https://www.youtube.com/@idkaboutyoupodcast) Check out our website: https://www.idkaboutyou.com (https://www.idkaboutyou.com)

But this isn't just a story about heartbreak—it's a story about reclaiming power. From navigating a breakup tied up in work and community to finding a new life (and creative career!) in her hometown, Roni reflects on the red flags she missed, the healing that came after, and why she’ll never settle again.
