[…] It's said that in the 30s, both Hitler and Roosevelt centralized power and forged greater authoritarian states. And some of that perhaps in reaction to the liberalism of the 20s. And so I do see these broad worldwide currents. And I think that they ebb and they flow. I'm more of a pendulum view of them or a sine wave view of how things move forward. And so I do share your perception that we are in a more bipartisan authoritarian era right now. But I think that's ultimately wealth destroying. And it is ultimately unsustainable. I mean, to the extent that the human urge is toward greater wealth, innovation and freedom. […]
