Author Interview: Sebastian Slovin, Rising Above the Stigma of Suicide

Since he can remember, nature has been a central part of Sebastian Slovin's life. He was fortunate to grow up in the beach community of La Jolla, California, and spent his childhood mixing it up in the ocean. As a young boy, he lost his father to suicide, which would later deeply inspire his path in life and inspire his writing. Sebastian is the author of Ashes in the Ocean which describes his loss and how suicide left an impact on all of his family members. Is there hope beyond the pain and suffering of losing a loved one to suicide? Sebastian is passionate about sharing his story with the intention to help create space for conversations about suicide, mental health, and other difficult topics - to break down the stigma around these topics. Sebastian and his wife Sonya co-founded Nature Unplugged which offers developmental coaching with the focus of cultivating healthy relationships with technology and reconnection to nature. In addition to coaching, Nature Unplugged offers workshops and retreats. Author Interview: KILLING WOMEN author Rod Sadler

Will A Serial Killer Soon Walk The Streets Again? Don Miller was quiet and reserved. As a former youth pastor, he seemed a devout Christian. No one would have ever suspected that the recent graduate of the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice was a serial killer. However, when Miller was arrested for the attempted murder of two teenagers in 1978, police quickly realized he was probably responsible for the disappearances of four women. I knew the stakes when I wrote KILLING WOMEN: The True Story of Serial Killer Don Miller’s Reign of Terror (https://wildbluepress.com/killing-women-rod-sadler-true-crime/). I also know that absent a change in the law, serial killer Don Miller is going to be released from prison in 2031. How could that be? A convicted serial killer, now having been in prison for forty-plus years, released to an unsuspecting public? It’s imprtant to understand that Michigan serial killer Don Miller is not in prison for murder. In fact, technically, he never was.......Rod Sadler. READ MORE (https://wildbluepress.com/killing-women-rod-sadler-should-serial-killer-be-set-free/) “Like all serial killers, Don Miller should never live free again. Killing Women is the singular comprehensive repository for all things ‘Miller.’ It should be required reading for every criminal justice school, police academy, and police officer.” -Hon. G. While some Evangelical church leaders are living in million dollar mansions, own tv and radio stations, property, airplanes and theme parks, all in the name of Jesus….. many have sinned through their worldly acts and yet still the flock follows….. why? ….Because the gospel of Jesus is a living gospel and one of grace and truth which the people of this world need to hear. What happens when a church leader's trust is betrayed by scandal? Warren Cole Smith is the President of MinistryWatch, which is dedicated to bringing transparency, accountability, and restored credibility to the Christian ministry world. Author Interview: Steve Kosareff author of SATIN PUMPS

Today I’m taking you with me in a red 1957 Chrysler 300C, fins and all, for a look into one of the most high profile murder cases of its time set against the midcentury glamour of Hollywood, Las Vegas and Palm Springs. “Satin Pumps: The Moonlit Murder That Mesmerized The Nation” is a true crime memoir written by screenwriter and author Steve Kosareff who is my guest today! Early in the evening on July 18, 1959, Dr. Bernard Finch and his girlfriend, Carole Ann Tregoff, drove from their Las Vegas love-nest to the Finch home in the Los Angeles suburb of West Covina to speak to his wife Barbara about obtaining a speedy divorce in Nevada. But the plan went awry and the conversation turned deadly with Barbara’s lifeless body ending up in her in-laws’ backyard next door. After a high-speed chase with police, Finch was arrested the next morning in Las Vegas and charged with Barbara’s murder. Then, during his court hearing in West Covina, Carole was arrested on the witness stand and charged as his accomplice. Soon others were named as part of a larger conspiracy. But who were they and what parts did they play in these deadly events? Author Interview: Benjamin Risha Author of THE SON OF SEVEN MOTHERS

Benjamin Risha is a survivor of the Tony Alamo Christian Foundation, he was actually born into it as the son of a Jewish mother and Lebanese father who were members and Benjamin’s destiny was to bring peace on earth through his heritage. What was orchestrated by Tony and Susan Alamo turned into a nightmare for their followers. As the adopted son of two cult leaders, Benjamin Risha was raised to someday assume a place of leadership in the Tony and Susan Alamo Christian Foundation with the Bible, and his parents’ interpretation of it, as his guide. He believed the prophecies of his adoptive mother and father, which included them being the two prophets foretold in the Book of Revelations as preceding the second coming of Jesus Christ, them raising from the dead when they died, and such dire warnings as the ground opening up to swallow non-believers into hell. He was sure that Susan Alamo could raise the dead as promised. However, when none of it happened, and the foundation slid from bucolic communal lifestyle to insufferable criminality that included absolute obedience to the Alamos, and polygamous marriages with girls as young as eight years old, Benjamin knew he had to escape. If he was caught trying to escape he would be beaten nearly to death, forced to go without food and water for his sins, and he would be shamed in the community. He embarked on a journey to locate his birth parents, discover the truth about a world he knew nothing about … and find himself. In THE SON OF SEVEN MOTHERS, Benjamin Risha takes readers on a harrowing journey that few in the United States can imagine. And eventually he must choose between the life he knows, and was “chosen” to lead, and his freedom.
