The sermon expounds on Colossians 3:1-11, urging believers to set their affections on heavenly things rather than earthly desires. It emphasizes that Christians are dead to the old life and must actively mortify sinful behaviors such as sexual immorality, anger, and deceit. The speaker highlights the progressive nature of sanctification, noting that while salvation provides the power to overcome sin, believers must continually renew their minds through Scripture. Unity among diverse believers is underscored by the truth that Christ is all in all, transcending social and cultural divisions. Ultimately, the message calls for a lifestyle of holiness and patience as believers await the glorious return of Jesus.

The sermon addresses the controversial topic of sexual immorality by asserting that believers must align with God's unchanging standards rather than shifting societal norms. It defines marriage strictly as a permanent, monogamous union between one biological man and one biological woman, rooted in the creation account of Genesis and affirmed by Jesus. The preacher warns against compromising biblical truth due to cultural pressure, citing the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as a warning against unnatural desires and sexual sin. Using 1 Corinthians 6, the text clarifies that while sexual sins are serious and exclude unrepentant practitioners from the kingdom, the gospel offers forgiveness and transformation for all who turn to Christ. The message concludes with an exhortation to glorify God with one's body and rely on the Holy Spirit for victory over sin.

A Transformed Life
Simon, the Pharisee, has invited Jesus into his home as a dinner guest. It was common for leaders to invite visiting Rabbis, or nobleman into their homes during their visit to a city or village. This would usually be considered an honor to be invited, and a greater honor to have the invitation accepted. But, in this case, the Pharisee is not inviting Jesus into his home to honor Him, nor to learn of His wisdom. This invitation was, most likely, part of the ongoing plot to gather damning evidence against the man who kept claiming to be equal with God. Initially, Simon seems pleased to have this immoral woman in his home. He did nothing to prevent her from entering. He did nothing to have her stopped or removed from the home once she began her ministry to Jesus. Rather, he gloated at this further proof that Jesus could not be a prophet, since He didn't seem to know who and what she was. In His part, Jesus wanted to use this woman's ministry as an opportunity to follow up on His judgments concerning that generation of people who resisted and resented the preaching of the Kingdom of God. During this visit, He confronts Simon with his arrogance, and illustrates for him how a transformed life responds to the salvation that has been granted, by faith. Simon's heart is unchanged. The gospel has been rejected again. The Messiah is resented. His message of salvation by faith instead of works is rejected again. How long, O Lord, will this be tolerated?
