MAFs Dean Vary on Backing Yourself (and everybody else)

Dean’s charm and big heart won over audiences and he brought a refreshing wave of positivity and real talk to everyone he connects with. Hannah Byczkowski and the Audacity to Like Yourself
What if confidence isn’t about loving every photo, everyangle or every sweaty Edinburgh Fringe moment, but simply refusing to waste your one precious life worrying about what strangers think? WHAT IF, DARREN?
Well in this episode of ImPerfect, he sits down with Traitors winner, comedian and podcaster, Hannah Byczkowski to figure it all out. They talk early body awareness, what it’s like to suddenly become famous, Turkish teeth, weight-loss injections and late-night food.
Hannah explains why other people’s opinions deserve far less airtime, why healthy food seems to go to bed early, and why there simply isn’t enough time to keep apologising for the body you live in. This is a conversation about changing what you want, accepting what you can’t control and remembering that confidence is not a prize reserved for people who have finally become “perfect”.

Rhiannon Cooper: taking up space in fitness
Can a fat person be a personal trainer? The internet has plenty to say – often loudly, cruelly and without knowing what it’s talking about. Darren Harriott sits down with Rhiannon Cooper, founder of Not So Typical Fitness, to discuss the abuse fat PTs receive, why representation in fitness is not just important but necessary, and how movement can become something other than punishment.
She runs (geddit) us through dreading exercise to becoming a strongwoman coach and the trainer she once needed: someone who understands bigger bodies, gym anxiety and neurodivergence, and who puts confidence, autonomy and feeling safe ahead of the number on the scales. You can bet our boy Darren meets her story with warmth, curiosity and genuine solidarity – calling out the hostility she has faced, celebrating her strength and making space for a frank, funny and compassionate conversation about who gets to belong in the gym.

Professor Adam Taylor: The Truth About Your Body
What is social media doing to our bodies and why are peoplefalling for it? Darren is joined by Professor Adam Taylor: anatomist, researcher, award-winning public educator and the amazing brain behind hundreds of brilliantly accessible articles, plus regular appearances across TV, radio and online media.
Together, they head into the weird and alarming world of looksmaxxing, where apparently even your jawline needs a five-year plan. From bone smashing, mewing and unregulated peptides to steroids, Turkey teeth, BBLs and weight-loss jabs: Adam explains what these trends can actually do to your physical and mental health, and why the algorithm is not a doctor.
WE REPEAT: THE ALGORITHM IS NOT A DOCTOR.

Molly Forbes: Body Confidence Is Broken
“It’s hard to have a body today”. Darren sits down with Molly Forbes, founder of the Body Happy Organisation, to unpack the tiny comments, changing-room dread and deeply unhelpful cultural messages that teach us, far far FAR too young, that our bodies are problems waiting to be fixed.
From school PE and family “banter” to diet culture in a wellness hat and algorithms that know exactly which insecurity to poke, Molly and Darren look at what body respect could look like instead. Warm, honest and reassuringly free of miracle cures, this is a conversation about changing the culture around our bodies, not spending another summer trying to change the bodies themselves.
Molly is wonderful and just who our kids need fighting in their corner.

Zoe Hardman: “My body was never the problem”
Zoe Hardman is a superwoman and one of those people who radiates warmth, humour and honesty and in this episode, she brings all three in ABUNDANCE. Best known for her work on Heart, Made by Mammas and BBC Morning Live, Zoe joins Darren for a beautifully open conversation about body image, eating disorders, recovery, motherhood and learning to truly care for the body you live in.
Zoe speaks with such generosity about the years she spent battling the voice in her head, the impact of online cruelty, and the long, messy, brave work of rebuilding her relationship with food, exercise and herself. It’s raw and full of hard-won wisdom, a proper reminder that healing isn’t about becoming perfect, it’s about finding freedom.
A gorgeous, compassionate conversation with a brilliant woman who has turned her pain into purpose.

Virgie Tovar and The Ozempic Jurassic Park
Darren sits down with a pillar of fat activism, Virgie Tovar, and honestly? She is amazing and fresh, and we loved this interview. Truth bombs and facts and things to sit and think about, abound.
They get into what GLP-1s are actually doing to your brain and body, and why Virgie compares the whole industry to Jurassic Park: "we know exactly how this goes." And Darren gets honest about his own history with dieting along the way.
They're funny, sharp, and giving you stuff to chew on.

Cat Sims And The Share
Darren is catching up with the effusive, enigmatic and endlessly creative Cat Sims to talk about her self-esteem following a 90s childhood, addiction and a positive GLP1 journey.
Expect too much and just enough: why she couldn't keep her weight loss a secret and why she embarked on it in the first place - and some poetic love tunnels. We LOVED Cat joining us in the studio and will put money on you feeling the same...

Weight Expectations with Dave Chawner
Darren Harriott is joined by comedian and writer Dave Chawner for a frank conversation about anorexia, masculinity and the strange ways our minds turn food and body image into a full-time job. Dave talks about what recovery looks like, why eating disorders don’t have a single, often romanticised, “look”, and how humour helped him make sense of the hardest parts.

Body Image: How to Break the Shame Cycle
Darren Harriott talks to consultant clinical psychologist Dr Denise Ratcliffe about the messy, maddening and very human psychology of body image. From childhood comments that stick to the exhausting on-off diet cycle, emotional eating, weight stigma and the reality of bariatric surgery and weight-loss jabs, this is a smart, funny and deeply compassionate conversation about why bodies are never just bodies, and why shame leads to weight gain.

Dr Josh and food noise, body shame and the wellness advice making us weird
Welcome to ImPerfect: the podcast for anyone who has ever looked in the mirror, opened Instagram, heard the words “BMI”, “clean eating” or “wellness journey”, and immediately needed a lie down.
In this inaugural episode, Darren is joined by NHS doctor, registered associate nutritionist and author Dr Joshua Wolrich to chew the proverbial fat about this lovely marketing term: food noise, about where society has driven body image, weight stigma and the many creative ways diet culture has convinced us to mistrust ourselves.
From personalised “unfattening” trainers and the tyranny of BMI to GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, social media algorithms and the dream of an internet filled only with cats, shelves and food that is just allowed to be food, this episode asks what it might take to build a kinder relationship with our bodies. WE LOVED IT.
