<p>Continua il viaggio che dalla diga di S. Giuliano ci porta a Miglionico, Grottole e a Matera. <strong>Matera</strong> è legata a doppio filo a Sinisgalli: è la città più trattata su «Civiltà delle Macchine» e idealmente rimanda alla sua esperienza da industriale. Sinisgalli ha collaborato nella sua carriera con <strong>Adriano Olivetti</strong>, lo stesso che ha lavorato a Matera per la costruzione del<strong> </strong>borgo<strong> La Martella</strong>. Continua il viaggio poi il <strong>Val Basento</strong>: a Pisticci e Ferrandina vengono scoperti giacimenti di Metano dall’<strong>Eni</strong> di <strong>Enrico Mattei</strong>, con cui lo stesso Sinisgalli ha collaborato nella sua carriera.</p>

2 | L’IMPORTANZA DELL’ACQUA
<p> Il viaggio prosegue nella <strong>Piana di Metapont</strong>o, dove anticamente sorse la fiorente civiltà della Magna Grecia. Proprio a Metaponto vi era la scuola pitagorica, per la quale la matematica spiegava il mondo: materia che fu uno dei grandi interessi di Sinisgalli. L’altra <strong>priorità </strong>di Sinisgalli era quella di far luce sui problemi della regione. Per cui in «Civiltà delle Macchine» dedica ampio spazio alla trattazione della bonifica metapontina e della costruzione di un nuovo sistema irriguo, che comprende l’innalzamento di intere<strong> dighe </strong>dove far confluire le acque dei fiumi che scorrono in Basilicata. </p>
