Koonin, a former Obama Energy Department Undersecretary, is a theoretical physicist and professor who discusses why the narrative on climate change needs revision and how science is often misrepresented and often erroneously reported by journalists and government officials. As President Barack Obama's Undersecretary at the Department of Energy, Steven Koonin authored the agency's climate strategy. He was later criticized and labeled a "climate denier" after publishing a 2014 Wall Street Journal essay saying the science on climate change is unsettled. He released the book "Unsettled" in 2021.
