In ConverSytion VS Episode 1: Steph VS Shai

Aziz has a take and he is not letting it go. Is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander the best guard since Michael Jordan? Babacar thinks the question is premature at best. Maktar Sec sits in the middle trying to keep the peace. This is the debut of a new format on In ConverSytion, a structured one on one debate with opening arguments, back and forth, and a verdict at the end. Aziz makes the case that what Shai has done over the last three seasons, doing it as the undisputed best player on his team, puts him above Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade. Babacar is not convinced, argues the take is driven by recency bias, that OKC has always been the favourite in every series they have played, and that Shai has never faced the kind of opposition those other guards had to go through. The stats, the titles, the teammates, the competition level, all of it gets put on the table. Good luck agreeing on anything by the end.

In ConverSytion Episode 17: Senegalese Politics

Senegal finally has a new government, and Aziz called Biggie and Moustapha with about ten minutes' notice. What followed was one of the most honest and informed conversations we have had on this podcast. The three of them dig into a political situation that is genuinely unprecedented, not just in Senegal but arguably in modern political history. A party that was banned, persecuted and fought at every turn somehow made it to the presidency. Then the man who built that party handed power to his right hand man, watched him become president, and the two of them are now on opposite sides. Moustapha breaks down the full arc from Sonko finishing third in 2019 all the way to today, and why the split, while shocking on the surface, was perhaps inevitable. Biggie thinks the situation is being overdramatised and that Senegal has seen worse. Moustapha is considerably less optimistic, particularly when it comes to the debt question, the IMF and what restructuring could actually mean for ordinary Senegalese people. It is a long one but every minute is worth it.

Episode 16 is a big one. Jamil, Abdou, Salla and Babi each come prepared with their 25 favorite films of the 21st century and the conversation that follows is exactly what you would expect. Agreements, disagreements, films nobody saw coming, films everyone forgot existed and a few choices that will genuinely make you question your relationship with whoever said them. From blockbusters to deep cuts, from Cannes darlings to films your friends have never heard of, this is four people who genuinely love cinema putting their taste on the line. No rankings, no rules, just 100 films and a whole lot of opinions.
