Can't decide whether to hit play? That's what In Decision is for.
Every day we're asked to make decisions. By some estimates, roughly 35,000 of them. Some forgettable, others life-changing. More and more, we're also being told those decisions can be outsourced to machines. What to write. What to buy. Even where to work.
That made me wonder: what decisions are still made by humans — and should always remain human?
I'm Rishabh Barve, a Stanford student endlessly curious about how people think when there isn't an obvious answer, so I started In Decision.
Each episode is a conversation with leaders in their fields — educators to founders, athletes to philanthropists — to understand how they decide.
Still indecisive on whether to press play? In Decision can help with that.
What Keeps Storytelling Human with NYT Bestselling Author Ruta Sepetys
How do we decide which stories from history deserve to be told? Bestselling author Ruta Sepetys has built her career uncovering overlooked lives. But as a child, a reaction to her first story cost her the courage to write for twenty years.
Years later, a family connection led her to the history behind her bestselling novel: Salt to the Sea. While researching the book, Ruta met survivors whose memories intersected decades after the disaster. One woman’s first question about a family she remembered was simple: did they survive?
Rishabh and Ruta explore her unexpected path from the music industry to historical fiction, the responsibility of telling someone else’s story, and how listening can make people we’ve never met matter to us.

What Keeps Public Education Human? with Superintendent Gillian Chapman
What decision in a child's education should never be handed to a machine? Superintendent Gillian Chapman leads Blue Valley Schools, one of Kansas' highest-performing districts — but she started as a third grader who was shamed for failing a timed multiplication test.
That moment, and her mother's response, shaped a career built on one conviction: every child deserves someone who believes in them, and that belief is something no machine can offer.
Rishabh and Dr. Chapman trace her path to the superintendent's office and dig into the decisions that come with leading at that scale.
