Menopause: Losing Yourself, Finding Yourself & Giving Less Fucks
What happens when menopause changes everything—from your hormones and sex drive to your identity, relationships, and the way you experience your own body? In this episode of In Process, Beth and Allyson get real about menopause, early menopause, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), intimacy, marriage, and the unexpected transformation that can happen when a woman no longer recognizes herself. Beth opens up about entering menopause at just 38 and the five-year journey that followed. From debilitating hot flashes, anxiety, and sleepless nights to navigating hormonal changes, shifting libido, and the emotional toll of feeling misunderstood, she shares what menopause has actually been like behind closed doors. Allyson brings a different perspective: What is it like to be married to a woman going through menopause while still being in the height of your own menstruating years? Together, they explore the realities of navigating two very different hormonal seasons within one marriage—and why patience, communication, compassion, and humor matter more than ever. In this episode, we explore: Early menopause and the emotional impact of hormonal changes Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and finding individualized support Menopause symptoms, including anxiety, hot flashes, and sleep disruption Changes in libido, sexual desire, and intimacy after menopause How menopause affects marriage and romantic relationships Beth's evolving relationship with food, exercise, and body image What women in their 30s and 40s can learn about supporting their bodies The freedom, discernment, and self-trust that can emerge through menopause This conversation isn't about fixing menopause or pretending it's easy. It's about creating space for the experiences women have historically been expected to navigate quietly. Because menopause isn't just a hormonal transition. For some women, it becomes an initiation into an entirely different relationship with themselves. Whether you're navigating perimenopause, menopause, postmenopause, or supporting someone you love through this chapter, we hope this conversation helps you feel a little less alone. Grounded Spirituality vs. Performative Spirituality
When does spirituality deepen your relationship with life and when does it become another way to escape it? In this episode of In Process, Beth and Allyson have an honest conversation about grounded spirituality vs. performative spirituality and the difference between actually living your beliefs and simply wearing the spiritual costume. Allyson shares her journey from organized religion into New Age spirituality, plant medicine, sacred sexuality, ceremony, and eventually a period of stripping away many of the identities and practices she had associated with being “spiritual.” Along the way, she began confronting the places where spirituality had become another form of seeking, performance, intensity, and even avoidance. Beth brings a different perspective - one rooted in yoga, embodiment, nature, discipline, motherhood, relationship, and the belief that spirituality should bring us more deeply into our human lives rather than constantly trying to transcend them. Together, we explore: Grounded spirituality vs. performative spirituality Spiritual bypassing and escaping the human experience Outsourcing your inner knowing to teachers, rituals, cards, ceremonies, or medicine Plant medicine, sacred sexuality, religion, and New Age spirituality Allyson’s Vipassana experience and confronting her relationship with intensity Addiction patterns hiding inside spiritual practices Power, safety, and accountability in spiritual leadership Why embodiment may look a lot more ordinary than enlightenment Learning to trust your own relationship with God, Spirit, faith, intuition, or whatever you call something greater than yourself Finding the sacred in relationships, conflict, work, family, responsibility, and everyday life This isn’t a conversation about one spiritual path being right and another being wrong. It’s an invitation to ask: Is this actually true for me? Does this practice bring me more deeply into my life OR help me avoid it? And underneath all the rituals, identities, practices, ceremonies, and beliefs… Who am I when I take the costume off? Thanks for being In Process with us. ADHD in a Relationship: The Hard Parts, the Gifts & What Actually Helps
What happens when one person in a relationship has ADHD — and the other person's brain works completely differently? In this episode of In Process, Allyson and Beth get personal about what ADHD actually looks like inside their marriage. Allyson shares her experience being diagnosed with ADHD at 17, her journey with medication, and what she's learned about building a life that actually supports the way her brain works. Navigating Conflict in Relationship
Conflict doesn’t have to mean disconnection. Sometimes, it can become the place where a relationship learns how to deepen. In this episode of In Process, Beth and Allyson get honest about how they navigate conflict in their marriage—from triggers and defensiveness to taking space, repairing after a rupture, and learning how to stay connected when they don’t agree. After attempting to record this episode while they were actively in conflict (spoiler: it didn’t go well), they return to the conversation from the other side of it. They explore how childhood experiences shape the way we fight, what happens when we “armor up,” and why learning to take a sacred pause has changed the way they communicate. They also unpack the difference between honoring your truth and needing your partner to agree with it, how triggers can reveal deeper wounds asking for attention, and why repair doesn’t always happen immediately. Sometimes healing happens through conversation, physical connection, or simply choosing each other differently the next time the same trigger appears. At the center of the conversation is a question they’ve learned to return to: Do you want to be right, or do you want to be in love? This is an honest conversation about relationship conflict, marriage, communication, emotional triggers, nervous system regulation, rupture and repair, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, intimacy, and choosing each other when relationships get hard. Step Parenting, Repair & What Happened After Our Hardest Podcast Conversation
What does it actually take to become a parent to a child you didn’t give birth to? After our raw conversation about parenting a child with special needs, we knew there was more to unpack. In this episode, we talk about what happened between us after that conversation, the tension it surfaced, and the unexpected closeness and creativity that emerged when we allowed ourselves to move through the discomfort instead of avoiding it. Then Allyson shares the part of the story we didn’t get to tell before: her journey into becoming a stepparent. She opens up about moving into the life of a 13-year-old with autism, questioning whether she was capable of doing it, feeling guilt and shame because love didn’t come as naturally as she thought it “should,” and eventually realizing that becoming a parent required something deeper than simply taking on the responsibilities of one. It required choosing. We talk about hypnosis, family patterns, boundaries, finding your own authentic parenting style, the rite of passage stepparents rarely receive, and the moment Allyson finally felt in her bones: I am his parent too. We also explore what it took for us to stop feeling like “Beth and Jack… and Allyson” and begin becoming a true parenting team. This one is for the stepparents, blended families, parents of children with special needs, and anyone learning that family isn’t always something you inherit. Sometimes, it’s something you consciously choose. stepparenting, stepmom, blended family, parenting a child with autism, special needs parenting, autism parenting, becoming a parent, step parent struggles, blended family relationships, motherhood

Let's Talk About Sex: What Really Creates Intimacy
What if the quality of your sex life has a lot less to do with what happens in the bedroom… and a lot more to do with everything that happens outside of it? In this episode, Beth and Allyson open up about their personal histories with sex, intimacy, desire, shame, power, and erotic energy, and how those experiences have shaped the relationship they have today with one another and sex They talk candidly about learning to use their voices, trusting each other’s “yes” because they can trust each other’s “no,” letting go of sex as an obligation or measurement of a healthy relationship, and discovering that intimacy can begin with something as simple as bringing your partner coffee in bed. They explore: • How early sexual experiences can shape our relationship with intimacy for decades• Sex as performance, power, distraction, validation, or escape• Why safety is foundational to vulnerability and pleasure• Learning to communicate what you actually want and don’t want• The difference between needing sex and desiring connection• Why intimacy is built in the tiny moments throughout the day• Erotic energy as something bigger than the physical act of sex• How long-term couples can allow their sexuality to evolve as they evolve• Why what happens in the bedroom often magnifies what is already happening outside of it This isn’t an episode about the mechanics of sex. It’s a conversation about the energy underneath it. The presence. The attunement. The honesty. The safety. The desire. And what becomes possible when two people stop performing intimacy and start actually meeting each other inside of it. sex and intimacy, intimacy in relationships, long term relationships, sexual intimacy, desire in relationships, erotic energy, healthy sexuality, relationship communication, emotional intimacy, queer relationships, lesbian relationships, marriage intimacy

Feral & Refined: When Opposites Create the Balance
What happens when two people who couldn’t be more different fall in love? In this episode, we’re putting our differences on full display, from how we sleep, pack for trips, communicate, navigate mornings, take risks, and move through the world… to the deeper patterns that have shaped who we are. Beth is refined. Intentional. Thoughtful. Safety-aware. A woman who considers the whole ecosystem before she moves. Allyson is feral. Expressive. Impulsive. Loud. The one who jumps first and figures out the rest later. And somehow, it works. But loving someone who operates completely differently than you isn’t always easy. Our differences have triggered us, challenged us, confused the hell out of us, and also become some of the greatest invitations for growth in our relationship. We talk about the places where our differences show up in everyday life, the ways our nervous systems and communication styles collide, and how we’ve learned to stop making one person’s way “right” and the other person’s way “wrong.” Because maybe the person who feels like they’re from an entirely different planet isn’t here to become more like you. Maybe they’re here to introduce you to parts of yourself you haven’t met yet. This one is playful, personal, and very us. Welcome to what happens when Feral meets Refined. marriage differences, queer relationship, lesbian marriage, same sex marriage, relationship polarity, polarity in relationships, healthy relationships, conscious relationships, relationship growth, personal growth in relationships, communication differences

The Loneliness of Parenting a Child With Special Needs
What does parenting look like when the life you imagined isn't the life you were given? In this deeply personal episode of In Process, Beth and Allyson open up about their experience raising a child with different needs from two very different sides of the family. Beth shares the reality of 16 years of motherhood: recognizing early that her son experienced the world differently, navigating an autism diagnosis, becoming his safe place and nervous system anchor, and carrying the invisible weight of knowing that parenting may never have the traditional finish line. Allyson shares the other side: entering the family when Jack was 13, struggling with what it meant to become a stepparent to a child with different needs, resisting the role at first, and eventually realizing that she wasn't simply choosing him... He was choosing her, too. Together, they talk about the parts of special-needs parenting that often aren't said out loud: the exhaustion, loneliness, judgment, resentment, fierce love, relationship challenges, and breathtaking beauty that can all exist at the same time. They also explore what actually helps a parent of a child with special needs and why sometimes the most loving thing you can do isn't ask, “What do you need?” but simply step into the arena beside them. In this episode: The early signs that led to Jack's autism diagnosis Why “autism is a superpower” can feel both beautiful and painful The invisible load of being a primary caregiver Supporting independence vs. simply making life easier Why outside parenting advice can be so difficult to receive The loneliness that can accompany special-needs parenting How parenting a child with different needs impacts marriage and partnership Allyson's struggle to fully step into the role of stepparent The moment her relationship with Jack fundamentally changed What caregivers actually need from the people who love them Creating a family ecosystem where everyone has a place This isn't an episode about having the answers. It's an intimate conversation about loving a child whose needs ask you to experience parenting, partnership and family differently and learning how to meet one another there. If you're raising a child with different needs, loving someone who is, or trying to understand how to better support a family in your life, this conversation is for you. autism, parenthood, loneliness, joy, pain, unconditional love, special needs, empathy, connection, growth, community

Our Relationships with Disordered Eating
Food is not the real issue here - control, shame, numbness, and inherited family patterns are. Beth and Al open up about the hidden ways disordered eating has shaped their lives, and the ceremony that changed everything. What begins as a raw conversation about restrictive eating, bingeing, fasting, and food obsession quickly turns into something deeper: a look at how women learn to use food to cope, disappear, stay small, or stay “in control.” Beth shares how a childhood shaped by separation, stress, and her mother’s own eating habits led to years of anorexia, chewing and spitting, and relentless self-judgment. Al shares the opposite end of the spectrum - growing up around abundance, using food to numb, and later trying to control her body through diets, performance, and orthorexia. You’ll hear: Why a three-day Sundance ceremony became a turning point for Allyson How “feeling empty” can actually create clarity, intuition, and self-connection The family dynamics, trauma, and scarcity fears underneath disordered eating Why shame loses power when it gets named out loud How partners can support healing without pressure, fixing, or judgment Beth and Allyson also unpack the language of “good” and “bad” food, the exhaustion of constant calculating, and the moment they each realized they were done being prisoners to their bodies. Along the way, they get honest about alcohol, anxiety, fasting, emotional avoidance, and the surprising ways a relationship can become a mirror for healing. This episode is especially for anyone who has ever felt trapped in cycles around food, body image, control, or comparison - and for anyone who loves someone walking that path. It is candid, compassionate, and deeply human, with the reminder that there is always another choice, another day, and another way back to yourself. If you need a conversation that feels less like advice and more like being seen, this one is for you.

There Was No Denying It Anymore | Our Love Story, Part 2.
This is Part 2 of the story of how we met, fell in love, and ultimately chose to build a life together. We pick up right where we left off: the moment we could no longer deny that something was happening between us. But acknowledging the connection was only the beginning. Allyson was still married and navigating an open relationship, Beth and Allyson had to finally name what was happening between them, and none of us knew where it was all going to lead. In this episode, we continue sharing the messy, tender, complicated truth of how our relationship began and the conversations and choices that changed everything. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, start there first. And as always, we'd love to hear from you. What resonated? What challenged you? What sparked something in you? Reach out and tell us. Because none of us have it all figured out. We're all In Process. — Beth + Allyson
