#77 - Jeff Hutson: Dressed to the Nines, Music, Gondolas & What’s Next

Performer, producer and entrepreneur Jeff Hutson joins Renée Michelle Merrifield in studio for a conversation spanning live music, show business, Indianapolis and his next big production. Jeff previews Dressed to the Nines Showband, returning for a special Valentine’s Day performance on Sunday, February 14, 2027, at the Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts in Winter Park, Florida. After taking the concert to New York City, Jeff is bringing the annual production to the Orlando area for an afternoon performance from 3–5 PM. This year’s show reunites Jeff with The Cunninghams, longtime friends and collaborators with whom he has performed around the world and on the national tour of Miracle on 34th Street. Ross Kratter serves as Musical Director, with a lineup Jeff says will bring together big band, Broadway, jazz, swing and more. The Valentine’s Day performance also happens to fall on Jeff’s 62nd birthday. Jeff also talks about why he loves taking Dressed to the Nines to a different destination each year, his desire to eventually bring the production overseas, and the special chemistry that comes from performing alongside musicians and entertainers he has worked with throughout his career. Back home in Indianapolis, the conversation turns to Jeff’s Old World Gondoliers and the experiences available along the Downtown Indianapolis Canal. Jeff shares the latest on the singing gondoliers, illuminated yacht rides after dark, bringing your own beverages aboard and the talented performers who make each ride unique. Plus, Jeff discusses his continuing work in Las Vegas, corporate entertainment, jingle work, comedy, staying creatively active and his philosophy of creating opportunities not only for himself but for other working artists. #76 - Jared Hiner: Kammy’s Kause Hits $1 Million & Returns Aug. 29

Kammy’s Kause founder Jared Hiner joins Renée in studio to preview the 22nd Annual Kammy’s Kause, happening Saturday, August 29, 2026, from noon to 10 PM in Fortville, Indiana. This year brings some major changes. With Landmark Park under construction, Kammy’s Kause moves directly onto Main Street in Fortville, creating a one-day street festival packed with music, family activities, food, community resources, and the heart that has defined the event for more than two decades. Jared reveals that 33 bands will perform across five stages throughout the day. The main stage will feature full bands, while four nearby satellite stages bring additional acoustic performances to locations just off Main Street. The goal is to create an energetic, walkable festival experience throughout downtown Fortville. The family-friendly side of Kammy’s Kause is expanding too. Instead of the traditional bounce-house setup, the 2026 event features a carnival-style kids zone with games and prizes, a live animal presentation from Silly Safaris, karaoke, face painting, balloon artists, and more. Food vendors will join Fortville’s existing downtown restaurants and shops, bringing festival favorites including cotton candy, sweet tea, specialty sodas, and other fair-style food. Jared also explains how organizers became more intentional with this year’s vendor lineup. Along with selected returning vendors, a significant portion of available space is being reserved for nonprofit organizations that directly serve local communities, including groups focused on health, mental health, special needs, and other essential services. The goal is for guests to leave not only entertained, but also connected to resources that could improve their lives. At the center of everything remains the mission behind Kammy’s Kause. Jared reflects on how his family was initially given only a few paragraphs of information after his daughter Kammy was diagnosed with 4p- / Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome. What began as one family searching for answers has grown into a movement centered around awareness, support, research, community, and families helping families. He describes Kammy’s Kause as one of the rare days when the outside noise disappears and everyone comes together to simply focus on one another, share some love, and support children and families whose needs are greater than their own. Fortville has embraced that mission so completely that Main Street becomes “Kammy Street” during August, with signs throughout downtown celebrating Kammy and the annual event. Another major tradition returns with the 17th Annual Kammy’s Ride. More than 100 motorcycles typically participate in the escorted ride before returning to Fortville around 2:30 PM. Jared encourages everyone to be there for the ride’s arrival and the powerful gathering that follows. Families affected by 4p- travel from multiple states to take the stage, introduce themselves, share their stories, and celebrate their children. Jared calls the roughly 2:30–3:30 PM portion of the day one of the most meaningful experiences Kammy’s Kause offers. And 2026 brings one especially emotional milestone. Kammy’s Kause began with approximately $1,000 raised during its first year. Jared announces that the organization has now officially crossed the incredible threshold of more than $1 MILLION raised. From a small local fundraiser to a 22-year tradition filling downtown Fortville with music, families, motorcycles, nonprofits, food, and community, Kammy’s Kause continues proving what can happen when people rally around needs greater than their own. The 22nd Annual Kammy’s Kause is FREE and open to the public, Saturday, August 29, from noon to 10 PM in Fortville. Learn more, donate, and get event information at KammysKause.org. #75 - CannonMusic317: Firefighter by Day, Artist by Dream

Indianapolis recording artist CannonMusic317 returns to the IN the Loop studio for an extended conversation about music, public service, perseverance, and the work behind building a creative career while serving his community as a firefighter/paramedic. Cannon has built a catalog of more than 75 released songs and features, blending influences from hip-hop, rock, and country. He talks about his recent single “Cul-de-Sac,” the evolution of his music, and the experiences that continue to shape what he writes. The conversation also looks back at some major milestones in his journey, including being featured in Amare` Magazine’s People of Impact edition and creating ambitious music videos far outside Indiana. Cannon shares the story behind “Nap to the Bay,” filmed in California with Black C of RBL Posse, and “Black Bill Gates,” a song he wrote before ever having the connections necessary to bring his vision to life. Years later, the video became exactly what he had imagined—complete with California locations, mansions, and a Lamborghini. For Cannon, that experience reinforced an important lesson: success isn’t defined solely by streams or numbers. Going from writing songs privately in a notebook to traveling, performing, producing professional music videos, building an audience, and sharing his work on television already represents a victory. But music is only one side of Cannon’s story. As a firefighter and paramedic, Cannon discusses the unpredictable reality of public service—from serious emergency calls and fires to helping people through moments of anxiety, rescuing animals, and even responding to the occasional duck stuck in a drain. He also opens up about how those experiences influence his songwriting. Seeing people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives has taught him to think beyond the immediate event and consider the emotions that remain weeks or months later. That empathy gives him material for his music, but Cannon candidly explains that carrying those experiences too deeply also led him to seek therapy and learn how to create healthier boundaries. Cannon reflects on being a young firefighter/paramedic, making mistakes, accepting tough criticism, and learning from experienced colleagues. A memorable early encounter with a veteran firefighter named Frank taught him that constructive criticism can become an opportunity to improve—and Cannon now finds himself becoming that mentor for newer members of the profession. The conversation also introduces Room 40 Podcast, created with two friends from the medical and emergency-services world. The trio plans to tackle sports, relationships, music, culture, life in the medical field, and the experiences that come from their very different perspectives. And somehow, Cannon decided one major event on the same day wasn’t enough. He previews an especially ambitious Saturday: stepping into a smoker boxing match at Triumph Boxing before heading to the Hoosier Dome to headline his Friends to Family Show later that evening. Cannon also reflects on his relationship with IN the Loop, from previous appearances and music milestones to the infamous hot sauce challenge that he and Renée survived together. It’s an honest, funny, and inspiring conversation about what happens when someone refuses to define himself by a single career—firefighter, paramedic, recording artist, entrepreneur, podcast host, boxer, and creator—all while continuing to chase the next goal.
