Refilling the Empty Nest by Jen Chaffman
In this episode, we hear Christine’s extraordinary story. After raising four children and watching them move on to grad school and new careers as young adults, Christine found herself in her newly “empty nest,” pondering “what’s next?” She felt moved to open her heart and her home and become a foster mother. Christine told me that there is always a strong need for others to become foster parents. If you’d like more information about fostering in North Carolina, here are some organizations that can help you out:
Adoption and Foster Care in NC (NCDHSS) (https://www.ncdhhs.gov/divisions/social-services/child-welfare-services/adoption-and-foster-care)

When the pandemic took over life in March of 2020, life changed abruptly for people around the world, including high school students in the United States.
After almost a year and a half after the initial shut down, I talk to Kaitlyn and Emma, two now-rising seniors at a high school in Charlotte, NC, to find out how life has changed and what they want people to know about what it’s been like. They are just some of the ordinary people in the world facing extraordinary circumstances, and this is their story.
