Episode 29. Exploring the Path to Healing with Dean Graves

Summary: Dean Graves explores consciousness, healing, and the transformative power of awareness, especially in the context of trauma and veteran recovery. This episode offers insights into spiritual growth, emotional healing, and practical tools for a happier, more authentic life. Uncover insights on identity, stress, and the journey to well-being. What if the stress and suffering we carry aren't just problems to manage, but clues guiding us toward healing? Dean Graves, a seasoned mental health counselor and spiritual guide, shares profound insights on understanding our identities andnavigating the complexities of human experience. The Nature of Identity Dean emphasizes that our identities are often false perceptions, crafted from our experiences and expectations. These identities trick the world into giving us more of what we like, yet they also root our stress. "This identity is a false perception of ourself... It is the sole source of our stress." As we move through life, we accumulate what Dean calls "emotional baggage"—unresolved experiences that weigh us down. Depression, he notes, often feels heavy because it carries this baggage. The Journey of Awareness The first step towards healing is awareness. Recognizing that we are not happy is crucial. It prompts us to look inward and understand that something needs to change. Dean draws parallels to the 12-step program, where acknowledging theneed for change is foundational. "Awareness itself is our healing tool... It is an inherent characteristic of the creator that is available to us." Once we become aware of our emotional baggage, we can begin the process of letting go. Just like fixing a flat tire, it's about finding solutions rather thanfocusing solely on the problem. Moving Towards Healing As we release this baggage and challenge our limiting beliefs, we create space for happiness to fill the void. Dean encourages a proactive approach to healing—always seeking solutions, whether through self-reflection or seeking help from others. "You're not going to heal until you resolve it." This conversation with Dean Graves offers a refreshing perspective on the intersection of mental health, identity, and consciousness. Episode 28. Unpacking Identity: The Key to Spiritual Transformation

Summary: Kelly Keefe explores the profound connection between identity, consciousness, and transformation. Discover how understanding and reshaping your identity can lead to lasting personal growth and spiritual awakening. Kelly Keefe delves into the intricate relationship between identity and spiritual transformation, focusing on how our beliefs and perceptions shape our reality. The Missing Link in Transformation Kelly emphasizes that while many seek spiritual awakening, true transformation requires an identity shift. "We can have this awakening... but the external's not matching it, or we get glimpses, and we kind of fall back into old routines or expressions of ourselves," she shares. This highlights the need for a new self-image to support lasting change. To genuinely transform, we must embody a different version of ourselves. Kelly encourages us to adopt a "be to have" framework: to achieve differentoutcomes, we must first become different. Understanding Identity Dean Graves asks a thought-provoking question: What defines our identity? Kelly responds that identity is a blend of beliefs, thoughts, actions, and values we bring into our daily lives. She explains, "It's not so much choosing to become someone that we wish to be, but it's becoming more and more of theauthentic truth of who we are at a soul level." Identity formation is often subconscious, shaped by early experiences and beliefs. As Kelly states, "Our subconscious is running up to 90% of our day-to-daylife." Thus, transforming our identity involves reshaping these deep-seated beliefs. The Role of Consciousness Dean also introduces the concept of consciousness, framing it as our "creativeness intoxicated with free will." Kelly adds that consciousness can be equated with awareness—awareness of ourselves and ourenvironment. She believes that increasing this awareness can lead to a more fulfilling life. By understanding how our minds work and cultivating awareness, we can better navigate our experiences and interactions with others.  As we explore these concepts, it becomes clear that identity and consciousness are pivotal in our spiritual journeys. Episode 27. The 13 Minute Mission; Rabbi Dr. Baruch Halevi ("B")

Summary: Exploring the unique challenges men face, the metaphysical understanding of gender roles, and the path to healing and authentic self-discovery through love, purpose, and consciousness expansion. Guest:Rabbi Dr. Baruch HaLevi, aka "B," was ordained as a Conservative rabbi through the American Jewish University, Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, and received his doctoral degree in ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation. In a world where every 13 minutes a man chooses to die by suicide, the urgency of addressing male mental health is crucial. Dean Graves sits down with a passionate advocate who has taken on the mission to reduce this staggering statistic through his nonprofit, the 13 Minutes Mission. The 13 Minutes Mission The founder shares a deeply personal connection to this cause, revealing that his own family has been touched by suicide. "Every 13 minutes in America, a man chooses to die by suicide. 80% of suicides are men," he states firmly. The aim? To extend that tragictimeline by just one more minute, potentially saving thousands of lives. Understanding Male Experience Dean and his Guest delve into the distinct challenges men face—particularly the societal expectation to solve problems independently. "We have a go-it-alone mentality," he explains. Unlike women, who generally maintain closer friendships and are more likely to seek help, men often struggle to express vulnerability. Thisisolation can lead to dire consequences, including suicide and addiction. "What if we aren't here to go it alone?" — [Rabbi B] The Metaphysical and the Masculine The conversation shifts to a deeper exploration of male identity from a spiritual perspective. Dean suggests that existence encompasses both metaphysical and physical realms, and that thisduality influences male behavior. The Guest agrees, adding layers of understanding from Kabbalistic teachings, where masculine energy is seen asoutward and conquering, while feminine energy is nurturing and relational. Embracing Vulnerability The discussion culminates in the necessity for men to develop their softer side. As they age, many men findtheir traditional roles unsustainable, leading to marital issues and loneliness. "What got you here won't get you there," the Guest reminds us, emphasizing the importance of building emotional connections andnurturing relationships. "Working with men to rediscover that, to share it, tobuild community around it, I believe that is an antidote to loneliness and suicide." — [Rabbi B] Keywords: men's mental health, masculinity, self-discovery, love, healing, metaphysics, logotherapy, purpose, suicide prevention Key Topics: The 13 minutes statistic and mission to reduce male suicide Differences between male and female experiences beyond biology The metaphysical perspective on gender roles and identity The importance of developing both masculine and feminine energies The role of love, purpose, and self-transcendence in healing Viktor Frankl's logotherapy and discovering meaning in suffering The impact of societal and cultural conditioning on men's mental health Strategies for inner awareness, emotional feeling, and identity transformation Sound Bites: 1.     "Those who have a why can bear almost any how." 2.     "Love is expansion, bridging the divide." 3.     "Our true self is our natural state of happiness."
