11: Our journey with anger and aggression

In this episode you’ll hear me share about the inner work I have done on my parenting journey in relation to anger and aggression, and how it has made big shifts in both my oldest son and I and in our relationship.

When my son started hitting, I was challenged to the core. As someone who is practicing Aware Parenting, this brought me face to face with my own conditioning and childhood traumas around anger and aggression. I felt really big feelings and I judged my son. I couldn’t offer him the type of response I wanted.

This took me on a journey of inner growth and healing that I’ll be forever grateful for. It also deepened my understanding of what Aware Parenting is about on an embodied level.

This episode is a glimpse into what the inner work of reparenting oneself, and the gifts it can bring in terms of healing and transformation for the parent and the child, as well as deeper connection and more secure attachment between them.

By sharing about our journey, I hope to inspire and encourage you on your own journey.

SUPPORT

If this episode touched you, you might be interested in my workshop on the topic of honoring our Noes in our parenting, in ways that are compassionate and steady. You can find information about it all on The Aware Parenting Institute website: https://www.awareparenting.com

If you want support in practicing Aware Parenting, I recommend reaching out for an Aware Parenting instructor. 10: Stress and trauma in children - A conversation with Dr. Aletha Solter

This episode is a conversation with Aletha Solter PhD about the impact of stress and trauma on children. Aletha is the founder of the Aware Parenting approach and the Aware Parenting Institute. In this episode, we go into the ways that children heal, how we can support this innate wisdom in them and why children turn to aggressive behaviors such as hitting.

Did you know that children’s aggressive behavior is tied to stress and trauma, and to their attempts to heal from it?

If we’re used to responding with judgement and anger, saying things like “Stop! Hitting is not allowed!” or “We don’t hit!” we’re actually getting in the way of what they really need in that situation. But of course, we don't want them to continue hitting. So what to do instead? This is what you’ll learn about in this episode.

With Aware Parenting we can support our children to heal from stress and trauma while they are still children, and we can help our children become willing to cooperate without the use of punishments or rewards.

This is a different parenting paradigm from the one most parents of today have experienced themselves. Aletha and I acknowledge the inner work that most parents feel called to do in order to practice Aware Parenting and their need for support on that journey.

Do you want to learn more and be supported?

I (Marthe) support parents in doing their inner (re-parenting) work alongside parenting with Aware Parenting.

To learn more about my support group for parents, which really is a program with both teaching and support, go to https://www.martheschneider.com/journey

For 1:1 mentoring with me, go to https://www.martheschneider.com/mentoring-for-mothers

To learn more about Aware Parenting, we recommend reading Aletha Solter’s books. Also, Aletha offers workshops and individual consultations for parents. You can find information about all of these offerings on The Aware Parenting Institute website: https://www.awareparenting.com

PS: If you found this episode interesting, you might also enjoy listening to episode 11 where I share about my own journey with anger and aggression.

And, if you found this episode helpful, would you be willing to let me know? I love hearing back from you! Also, if you want to help spread this information, you can do that by leaving a review or share the episode - or both!

Love, Marthe

9: Regulation as alienation

Hello dear you!

In this episode I’m talking about my experience of the words regulation, nervous system regulation and emotional regulation and how they are being used in the public now, - on the internet and social media especially, and why I feel concerned because of it.

I talk about:

🌱 What I see as the dangers when words like these are taken out of their (clinical) context, and popularized and used in the marketing of yet another quick way to fix ourselves.

🌱 How our capacity to heal and expand is innate, and that it involves far more than our nervous system.

🌱 How words have the power to maintain a view of ourselves as machines made up of parts instead of an amazingly complex and wise design made by mother nature where everything is connected and where all that we experience has meaning.

🌱 What happens when regulation is used in a way that leads us to believe that there’s something wrong with us, and that we need someone else to teach us techniques to fix what supposedly is a glitch in our nervous system, when really it’s our body’s attempt to initiate and complete a healing process that involves all of us.

I hope this episode leaves you feeling empowered and inspired!

💡 If you would like me to answer one of your questions in a future episode, send me an email at marthe@martheschneider.com

🤝 If you want to work with me, check out my mentoring program at www.martheschneider.com/mentoring

I love supporting you to be all that you are, and to free yourself from what’s been holding you back.

Love, Marthe
