44 - Building a 500-Part Electric Motorcycle in a Rented Brooklyn Garage | Taras Kravtchouk, Tarform
Taras Kravtchouk was a graphic designer in Stockholm who moved to New York and rented a Park Slope garage. That garage became Tarform, the Brooklyn studio behind the Luna and Vera electric motorcycles.
He walks Henrik through the whole build: roughly $40,000 of his own money and a $50K friends-and-family check, scrapping the first prototype entirely, finishing the second platform during lockdown with one engineer, delivering 35 handmade Founder Edition Lunas at $54,000 apiece, then designing the $18,000 Vera for real production volume. Plus what the tariff shock did to a 500-component supply chain.
His warning for hardware founders: most companies fail not because the product is bad, but because the founder gets too attached to the idea and spends too much money defending it.

43 - 30 Years at 3M Taught Rolf Biernath How to Kill a Bad Product Idea
Ninety percent of new product ideas never hit market expectations. Rolf Biernath spent 30 years at 3M finding out why.
Henrik Johansson sits down with the founder of Biernath Consulting, inventor on 50+ U.S. patents across adhesives, optical displays, and microreplication. Rolf reviewed roughly fifty programs from his career and asked what question, asked earlier, would have saved each one. The answer became Build What Wins — a screen across viability, defensibility, feasibility, and timing, where every score requires matching evidence. Cost models and letters of intent count. Enthusiasm doesn’t.
Also covered: how validation differs between B2B and consumer, why companies sit on competing ideas for years, and how a two-week pressure test replaces six months of fractured effort.
Find Rolf at buildwhatwins.com (buildwhatwins.com) and on LinkedIn, where he writes the Build What Wins newsletter.

42 - How Fallen Palm Leaves Became a Seven-Figure Tableware Business
When her parties kept ending in piles of disposable plates, Pallavi Pande gave herself a new title — “Chief Dishwashing Officer” — then quit it for good. In this episode of Innovator Insights, the DTOCS founder shares how she turned naturally fallen palm leaves into a seven-figure sustainable tableware brand sold across three continents. Drawing on a decade in logistics, Pallavi reveals why she treats her factory partners like co-founders, how she cracked all three of Amazon’s selling platforms to go from $0 to $100K in six months, and the lessons from two failed businesses that shaped her approach. Her advice for founders: start small, set a deadline, and never sell a product you wouldn’t use yourself.
