Festung Europa vor der Haustür – Alice über Grenzgewalt, politischen Stillstand und gelebte Solidarität auf Lesbos

In dieser Folge spreche ich mit Alice, die seit 2015 auf Lesbos lebt – einem Ort, der zum Symbol für das politische Versagen Europas geworden ist. Was damals mit spontaner Solidarität begann, ist heute ein Ort systematischer Abschreckung und Grenzgewalt. Seit Jahren erleben wir, wie sich die EU und der griechische Staat aus der Verantwortung ziehen, Rechte aushöhlen, Zuständigkeiten abschieben und ihre Grenzpolitik in einen menschenrechtlichen Ausnahmezustand verwandeln. Alice hat all das miterlebt – zuerst als Helferin bei Borderline Europe, wo sie Geflüchtete direkt nach ihrer Ankunft unterstützte, heute als Projektleiterin des Welcome Office, das Familien aus den Camps Wohnraum in Mytilini vermittelt und sie beim Kampf gegen ein feindliches bürokratisches System begleitet. Während Europa weiter Mauern baut, kämpfen sie und ihr Team für ein Minimum an Würde. Gleichzeitig hat Alice auf Lesbos ein Zuhause gefunden. Sie hat hier eine Familie gegründet, lebt mit ihrem Mann und ihren Kindern auf der Insel – mitten im Spannungsfeld zwischen Alltag und Ausnahmezustand. Wir sprechen über die Realität eines Lebens zwischen Familienleben und Grenzgewalt, zwischen Kindergarten und Krisenpolitik. Ein Gespräch über Durchhalten, Verantwortung und das ständige Gefühl, zu wenig zu tun – in einem System, das von Anfang an nicht helfen wollte. Hamed has been living on Lesvos for seven years after fleeing Iran. While many move on, he made the decision to stay and build a life here. He now works with Makerspace, an NGO that repairs electronics, bikes, and other essentials for people living in the camp. His work is practical, but also deeply personal—helping people maintain a sense of dignity and normalcy in difficult circumstances. In this episode, we talk about why he stayed, what home means to him, and the challenges of life on an island where everything feels temporary.
