Give Yourself Grace: How Poetry Taught Me to Love the Parts I Hated

There's a conversation happening inside you right now. Maybe it's cruel. Maybe it's mean. Maybe it's been telling you that you're not enough for so long that you actually believe it.

Faith Witham spent 13 years listening to that voice. A voice so brutal, so relentless, that when people tried to be kind to her, it made her furious. How dare they, it screamed. This girl only deserves hate.

But here's what shifted everything: She stopped trying to make that voice disappear. Instead, she started writing to it. Naming it. Having a real conversation with the parts of herself that had been at war for so long.

In this episode, we explore what happens when you stop rejecting yourself and start rebuilding a relationship with every part of you—even the dark, cruel, monster parts. How poetry becomes a way to gain control when your life feels completely out of control. Why positive affirmations can actually make things worse if you haven't done the deeper work first. And how healing is so messy, so non-linear, that it doesn't look anything like what Instagram tells you it should look like.

Faith shares her journey raw and unfiltered. The self-harm that started at 13. The voice in her head that took 13 years to quiet. The chronic illness that made her body a stranger. And the moment she realized that before she could love herself, she had to make peace with the parts she hated.

She reads a poem called "The Child"—a piece so visceral, so honest, that it holds the entire journey. The duality of being both the predator and the prey inside your own mind. The inner child begging to be loved. The slow realization that she is the child starved of love. And the only person who can give that love is her.

We talk about why toxic positivity is actually harmful. Why you have to start with neutrality, not brightness. Why the cruel voice isn't your enemy—it's just a part of you that needs to be heard. How small things like painting your nails become acts of self-love when you're sick and struggling. And why giving yourself grace isn't weakness. It's the hardest work you'll ever do.

But most importantly, we discuss how this entire journey is a conversation with yourself. One that starts in hate, moves through grief and rage and anger, and eventually—if you're brave enough—lands in something that feels almost like kindness.

Connect with Faith:
Poetry workshops and zine festival events: [details in show notes]
Upcoming poetry memoir: "Me, Myself, and the Monster Within"
Social media:

Subscribe for conversations on rebuilding your relationship with yourself, nervous system healing, and what it means to give yourself grace.

"I'm a Two-Time Corporate Quitter". Why Breaking Free Changes Everything

Ashley looked at her life and said "I don't know." And that's when everything shifted.

She had the job, the money, the house, the car. She checked every box. But something in her soul was not aligned. She was so burnt out. And instead of pushing harder, she did something most people won't do—she quit. Twice. And left to travel.

Three months through Europe. No plan. Just her and the unknown.

What I found so fascinating listening to her is that she didn't go to escape. She went to finally know herself. And the moment she stepped outside her comfort zone, the real stuff started happening. She wasn't performing anymore. There was no pressure to be anyone but herself. And in that freedom, she woke up every day asking "What do I actually want?" instead of just showing up and clocking in.

This is what most of us don't give ourselves permission to do. We stay. We convince ourselves it's safer. But there's a cost to that comfort.

Ashley shares the mess of it honestly—getting lost, wasting money, buying the wrong train tickets, the language barriers, the fears. And then she talks about something that got me: "You're going to have the best stories when it happens." Because the uncomfortable moments? Those are where you actually grow. Those are where you learn you can handle things. You build real resilience. Not the kind you read about. The kind you feel in your body.

We talk about why people stay stuck even when they know something's missing. The fears that keep us small. And what happens on the other side when you're brave enough to break the status quo. She came back different. Connected to nature differently. Connected to people differently. Connected to herself.

And now she helps people do the same—not as a vacation, but as a real practice. A way to finally listen to what's been calling you all along.

This episode is for anyone who feels that calling but hasn't yet given themselves permission to answer it.

Connect with Ashley: IG: @ash.evolves

TT: @ash.evolves

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ash.evolves

Check out her travel tools or work with Ashley 1:1: stan.store/ashevolves
Subscribe for conversations on real connection, what it takes to break free, and why getting uncomfortable is where the magic actually lives.

Reconnecting with the Wild in You: How Body Trust Leads to Authentic Power

There's a version of you that exists beneath all the conditioning, expectations, and shoulds. The wild one. The one that knows what she wants and isn't afraid to claim it.

Amy Martin spent over a decade finding her way back to her.

In this conversation, we explore what it actually takes to reclaim that authentic power—and why it often requires going through the darkest parts of yourself first.

Amy shares her journey candidly. The corporate years that nearly consumed her. Two miscarriages that shattered her carefully built life. The rage, the grief, the questions that had no answers. And then, slowly, the awakening.

What she discovered through it all: Body trust is everything. Not mindset. Not affirmations. But learning to feel safe inside your own skin and trust what your nervous system knows. That's where authentic power lives.

We talk about the gap between knowing you have this wild, creative seed inside and actually living from it. Why conditioning teaches women to be smaller and quieter. How surrender and safety create space for intuition. And what it looks like to help other women access the power they've been taught to hide.

Amy also shares her real, practical tools—the ones that helped her move from overwhelm and self-betrayal into confidence and authentic expansion. Not as steps or formulas. As real things that work.

This episode is for women who know there's more inside them but haven't yet given themselves permission to unleash it.

Resources & Connect with Amy:
EffinCreative: https://effincreative.co/
Instagram: @amyhosiermartinMonthly Howl at the Moon & Swim (Austin, TX)
Free WhatsApp group for new/full moon rituals: https://chat.whatsapp.com/LFEiu6g9nqm8r47ul1WfbC?mode=gi_t

Subscribe for conversations on nervous system healing, authentic power, and what it means to reclaim your wild self.
