So this is back in the 1660s, when King Charles II has been restored onto the throne after his dad, Charles I, of course, had his head chopped off, and then there's this period of righting the perceived wrongs of the period in between. So what happened there is a lot of houses and estates that had previously been owned by followers of Cromwell were now confiscated and sold at cheap prices to followers of the king. And that happened a lot across Cheshire because of how strongly royalist it had been before the war. […]
