In this episode, we sit down with Nurys Santos, CPA, a Dominican-born accountant, educator, and community advocate whose journey reminds us that dignity, choice, and power are built, not given.
Nurys opens up about immigrating to the U.S. as an adult, navigating language barriers, rebuilding her career from the ground up, and the quiet psychological toll of losing her voice in rooms where she knew she belonged. From earning her CPA and graduating with a perfect 4.0, to healing money trauma, reclaiming confidence, and stepping into leadership as an educator and business owner, her story is one of courage, clarity, and deep self-trust.
This conversation explores education as liberation, mentorship as lifeline, and money as a tool for freedom, not fear. We talk about accents, impostor syndrome, generational wealth, and why financial literacy is an act of empowerment in our communities.
If you’ve ever questioned your worth, your voice, or your right to choose more, this episode is for you.
Because empowerment doesn’t start with perfection.
It begins with a conversation.

Nurys Santos, MSA, CPA, CFE, CVA is the Founder of Santos Consulting CPA, PLLC, and a trusted financial strategist with more than a decade of experience in business valuation, taxation, forensic accounting, and IRS controversy.
After emigrating from the Dominican Republic to the United States in 2009, Nurys rebuilt her career from the ground up while raising a family and advancing professionally. She earned her Master of Science in Accounting from Lehman College (CUNY) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña in the Dominican Republic. She has completed hundreds of business valuations across industries, supporting estate and gift tax planning, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, and long-term strategy.
Today, Nurys is not only a CPA, but an educator, mentor, and advocate. She teaches accounting within her community, serves as a Trustee of the Inspirame Latina Foundation, and is deeply committed to empowering Latina women through financial education, leadership, and access. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to make taxation and wealth creation clear, ethical, and accessible, so others can build with confidence and choice.
