What Will Character Do for my Company? Character's Value Prop Part 2
Character development may be costly to invest in, but we are missing out on the most important things for our companies. This two-part series on the value proposition of character concludes by looking at the benefits of investing in values and purpose integration. Employee engagement during COVID-19 and remote working has become a critical issue for companies, not to mention the innovation, creativity, productivity, and customer retention we need to successfully get through this crisis. Character is an investment that pays off, and this episode helps us add up the value to make the right investment. You're Already Paying for Character: Character's Value Prop Part 1
Character may be costly to invest in, but we are already paying a significant cost by not investing in character and purpose integration. This two-part series on the value proposition of character begins looking at the costs of doing nothing. Companies, seemingly universally, rank character as more important than skills or knowledge in their companies, but their investment in developing character doesn't reflect that priority. This episode briefly reviews many of those reasons before examining the costs we are already spending when someone's character lapses. Perhaps we can come to realize, the cost of doing nothing far outweighs the cost of investing in developing character, integrating our values and purpose into our companies. Whose character is right?
Before we can be intentional about developing character, we need to articulate a clear and robust framework of character traits. But whose character is right? In this episode we look at different frameworks from the past few thousand years and across the world to see if there is a common thread that can inform us today.
