And so I meet Gloria Steinem within the context of her friendship with Bell Hooks. And so we spend time together as girlfriends. She would invite Bell Hooks to the Caribbean where she would be visiting. And so I didn't experience her as an icon initially. Well, never. I experienced her as this regular girlfriend of bell hooks who was funny whom you could criticize who listened to what it is that you you had to say and i also experienced her as one of the few so-called second wave white feminists who had real relationships with black women the other connection of course was alice walker So Alice and I were at Spelman together.
