Public Health with Dr Nevilene Slingers

Nevilene is the Executive Program Manager of the Social Impact Bond at the South African Medical Research Council. Her specialities include sustainable value creation in complex environments, innovation and strategy as well as health programmes including HIV, TB and STIs. James is an an experienced policy researcher that has worked in South Africa, Africa and internationally for the last 25 years. Following 13 years at the South African Qualifications Authority in research policy and international liaison capacities, he joined JET Education Services in 2014 as the chief executive. Together we’ll be unpacking public education and why this is one of South Africa’s most pressing issues. We also hope to delve into the role that corporate South Africa can play in changing the narrative both of the system at large and the individual lives of the many young people who really need us to do right by them.

Shiluba is a qualified chartered accountant and the Managing Partner for Tshiamo Impact Partners - an impact investment and advisory firm establishing a Gender Lens Impact Fund. Tshiamo Impact currently manages allocations from two angel groupings (consisting of 50 African women) who invest using a gender lens. Together we’ll be unpacking impact investing and how investing in positive, results-driven social change still makes business sense. This is an area where the corporate world has a lot to offer and the value of sustainable, equitable and just delivery of investing done this way is hard to match.
