It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E11 - 'The Glade Plug-In Killed Pot Pourri' (World Cup '98)

With the 2026 version now in full swing, what better time to complete our review of the 90s World Cups by looking at the best tournament, not just of the decade, but of all time? (Yes, it's Stu's turn to write the episode description this week)

Join us as, in the usual fashion, we look back on the players, kits and major incidents from France '98, as well as our own personal memories of the tournament. Find out which superstition worked for Stu's mum once and only once, which Brazilian player's international career began and ended in France, and which shirt sale comes to the surface as one of Alex's biggest ever life regrets. Oh, and don't ask us about the office sweepstake...

We also had some invaluable input from Football Jonesy of That 90s Premier League Podcast, which you can find HERE.

Also this time: A huge sponsor! Alex delights in another injury to a 90s icon! The most 90s furnishings! And much, much more...

If you'd like to hear more from us, be sure to like and subscribe, and share your thoughts with us on all our social media channels, found here on our LINKTREE.

Next time: Diamond Joe Barter returns to the show to discuss the UK Top 40 from the week beginning 13th February 1994!

Music: Sports FM by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com

Pod logo: Adam Greenwood Photography & Design https://www.adamgreenwoodphotographer.com

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E10 - 'A Lovely Cat' (Films of 1997)

We're back in the dusty seats of the local flea-pit cinema to talk about the films of 1997 this time on the podcast. There was some serious box office cash spent this year and we cover some of the biggest smashes in cinema history.

We're joined by brother of the pod Adam to pick two films each to talk about, plus we've all watched Spice World for the first time ever! And of course, we'll break down the box-office top 10 and the award winners. Tune in to find out which film Alex only realised was an all-time classic only after a rewatch in his late 30s, which threequel does Stu think is somewhat overlooked and which film was the first 15 certificate film Adam saw in the cinema. And what did we all think of the plot of Spice World?

Also this time: 90s tennis players! 90s exhibition visits! A potential challenger to the role of official diarist of the pod! And much, much more...

If you'd like to hear more from us, be sure to like and subscribe, and share your thoughts with us on all our social media channels, found here on our LINKTREE.

Next time: We'll be doing a topical chat about the World Cup, specifically France '98!

Music: Sports FM by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com

Pod logo: Adam Greenwood Photography & Design https://www.adamgreenwoodphotographer.com

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E9 - 'Dripping through the table like the Xenomorph's blood in Alien' (5th Birthday Special)

Five years, eh?! Who would have thought that a tinpot project that started way back in June 2021 would have come this far. That is to say, a tinpot project which has somehow now produced over a hundred episodes? Join us as we celebrate this significant milestone for the podcast!

In a shocking turn of events, just as we had finished putting up the streamers and balloons, the podcast accidentally broke through to the mainstream through an Instagram reel of us discussing mixtapes and BBC2 idents, generating a high level of (mostly positive) interest from new listeners to the pod (we hope). How will the lads handle their new found fame? More to the point, how will Geoff monetise it? If only he was around somewhere so that he could be asked that question.

Once the party begins in earnest, we swap gifts before taking on an extended quiz, then answer some listener questions in our first ever 'Ask Us Anything' . There's far too much Aston Villa/Norwich City content in the end, but it's our birthday so you'll have to let us off.

Also this time: Hungry Joes! Culture Club redux! Bees in goalmouth redux! And much, much more...

Thank you for all your support over the past five years, we make the show for you and we really do appreciate it. Keep listening, keep in touch and here's to the next five!

If you'd like to hear more from us, be sure to like and subscribe, and share your thoughts with us on all our social media channels, found here on our LINKTREE.

Next time: Brother of the pod Adam returns to discuss the movies of 1997!

Music: Sports FM by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com

Pod logo: Adam Greenwood Photography & Design https://www.adamgreenwoodphotographer.com
