JAMMING BY A THREAD

About JAMMING BY A THREAD

JAMMING BY A THREAD is the only podcast series featuring the finest DJ tag-team selectors. US-based British cratedigging master DJ and former Ninja Tune producer/recording artist BEN ALLEN (aka the Loop Professor (https://www.discogs.com/artist/962422-Loop-Professor)) and Aussie music junkie, DJ and worldwide music festival producer STUART ROGERS play tag with tracks via their mobile devices, creating a monthly exchange of deep sounds. Based on a theme (or Not!), expect a mind-blowing "broader than broadway" selection of inspired funk, soul, reggae, dub, latin, hip-hop, jazz, rock, freestyle, fusion and whatever other audio bombs they are throwing at each other to create episodes that are masterclass deejay sessions in their own right! Check out Ben's bi-weekly two-hour radio show of deep soul, funk, blues and R&B on the long-running Saturday night "Soul Mates" program on WMPG FM (https://www.wmpg.org/show/sat1900/#) in Portland, Maine and anytime on wmpg.org (https://www.wmpg.org/show/sat1900/#) And when Stu isn't listening to his massive and eclectic vinyl collection, he is busy as the Director of Programming at the prestigious City Recital Hall (https://www.cityrecitalhall.com/about/staff/)in Sydney.

JAMMING BY A THREAD Episode 7 Rare Groove & Heavy Funk featuring Special Guest Co-Selector DJ Comrade of WMPG

For Episode 7 of JAMMING BY A THREAD, with Stu still on extended break down under, co-Host Ben Allen aka The Loop Professor, holds it down for a new tune-for-tune ping-pong set with his fellow on-air deejay from WMPG (https://www.wmpg.org/), DJ COMRADE.  WMPG is one of the finest community/free-from radio stations in the country, operating at 90.9 FM Portland/Gorham (https://www.wmpg.org/), at the University of Southern Maine, and of course streaming on www.wmpg.org (https://www.wmpg.org/) Over two decades as both a local gigging musician and DJ at WMPG, Eric aka DJ COMRADE currently he can be heard every other Friday from 5:30 - 7pm (and streamed from the archives any time) spinning records on his show, "Foot On The Rock." (https://www.wmpg.org/show/fri1700/) Eric believes in the deep power of 70's funk, soul, and jazz (and disco), to spread love, solidarity, and community through the mystical rhythm of the one. Each set, whether live or on the radio, is curated to be a musical journey that leaves his audience feeling stronger of spirit...or, you know, at least get a toe or two tapping in friendly camaraderie." Ben and Eric get down for this one-hour tag-team set of deep mostly-'70s gritty funk and funky jazz-fusion, with a couple of retro-modern grooves thrown in for good measure, featuring tracks from Patrice Rushen, Bill Withers, Esther Phillips, Ray Barretto, Les Imprimes, Isaac Hayes and much more! BEN aka “The Loop Professor," is one of the rotating hosts of the long-running and award-winning SOUL MATES show on WMPG 90.9 Portland, ME (https://www.wmpg.org/show/sat1900/) and online at wmpg.org, offering up a cross section of Soul, Blues & R&B flavors – from stone cold classics to the very latest releases, playing the kind of soul-inspired sounds you just don’t get to hear anywhere else.  Yes mate! Continuing a rich multi-generational tradition at WMPG…Listen LIVE Wednesdays 8:30pm to 10pm Eastern, and anytime after on www.wmpg.org (http://www.wmpg.org/)  As The Loop Professor, Ben and super-producer/UK hip-hop royalty Jonny Cuba were the creative team behind the fantastic ‘90s Ninja Tune hip-hop duo DYNAMIC SYNCOPATION.  Their two releases on the legendary label still represent some of the finest UK hip-hop production to ever come out of London.  Vinyl junkie supreme Stuart “Stu” Rogers is a Sydney native and international festival booker and longtime broadcasting vet.  Lifelong professional cratediggers and partners in DJ crime, Ben and Stu will be back together soon and finer than ever...ping-ponging tracks and JAMMING BY A THREAD!
