About Jesus Stories; Jesus in the Old Testament Wilderness
The Bible is clear that "all of the Bible is all about Jesus". Join us on our 2025 Summer series with our church, where we highlight Jesus' foreshadowing presence in the Old Testament; beginning in the garden of Eden, but hyper-focus on the Wilderness Wanderings found in the book of Exodus.
So open your Bible and join us on the journey.
This sermon series was preached at Renewed Life Church in the San Diego suburb of Poway California. Renewed Life is a part of the Calvary Global Network (CGN) family of churches.

This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture and our lives today. Throughout the Israelites' journey in the wilderness, God has been preparing them for their entry to the promised land. Just as they are about to enter, Moses delivers one final message to the people from God. It's made clear to the people that they are to enter with confidence in their provider, with a healthy fear of Him, and ready for conflict. Like the Israelites, we can find our circumstances changing, but as long as we keep our mindset constant and focused on God, we too can find rest in Him.
This sermon is preached by one of our teaching pastors, Trevor O’Keefe in the Summer of 2025.

"His Guiding Presence" Exodus 13:17-22
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture and our lives today. Throughout the Israelites' journey in the wilderness, they have been the recipients of God's guidance and provision, whether it was a cloud, a pillar of fire, or rain of manna. Originally in the Garden of Eden, God's original desire was to be with us in harmony and peace. In the desert, God is leading His people and teaching them by showing them who He is and who they really are. His presence protected His people and sparked praise, like we can continue to experience today.
This sermon is preached by one of our teaching pastors, Clay Worrell in the summer of 2025.

"God on the Mountain" Exodus 19:1-22
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture and our lives today. Throughout the Israelites' journey in the wilderness, they have voiced their complaints to Moses in place of God over the food, water, and provision for them. This week, we see God descend upon His people and the Israelites reaction. They don't complain but stand before Him in fear and terror. But our relationship with God is not left in this same state. Jesus came down to earth once again to be our substitute and pave a path for us to God, where forgiveness can be found. And it is when we are united with Him that we are given the Holy Spirit to continue to work in our lives.

"Faith through the suffering" Numbers 21:1-9
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture and our lives today. As the Israelites wandered through the wilderness, their complaints against Moses and God led to them being overrun by snakes and crying to God to save them. They were provided a bronze snake that they could look to for healing. Like the Israelites, we look for help in the midst of our suffering, and we can turn to Jesus, the one who not only can help but did help us through His sacrifice for us.
This sermon is preached by one of our staff team members, Jesse Jimenez is our worship & youth minister. He taught this sermon in the Summer of 2025.

"God under The Gavel" Exodus 17:1-7
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture and our lives today. As the Israelites wandered through the wilderness, their cries for water turned from complaints to demands for justice, that someone must pay for all the suffering they've had to endure. In hindsight, we can look back and wonder how the Israelites, in their moment of pain, couldn't remember how God had just provided manna or delivered them from Egypt. But we too are susceptible to being just like the Israelites, living in tension and fear of the unknown and the future. We can see that even in our hard times, God's presence and His gracious love is still there for us.

"Our Daily Bread" Exodus 16:1-36
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture and our lives today. As the Israelites began wandering through the wilderness, they cried out for food out of anger and fear, seemingly forgetting their miraculous deliverance from Egypt. Moses let the people know the Lord would provide manna to them, so long as they followed His rules about the manna. This story points us to Jesus, the true and eternal manna sent from heaven. He not only solves our problems here and now, but eternally. He sustains us each day through a daily relationship with us and provides us with healthy rhythms and true rest.

"The Red Sea Crossing" Exodus 14:21-31
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture as well as our lives today. The crossing of the Red Sea draws many parallels to other stories in the Bible, like the creation story and life of Moses. It also paints a picture of the resurrection of Jesus. However, one key difference was that Jesus exemplified trust and following God's will, which the Israelites did not. They needed course corrections as their worldview was changed into people under the hand of God.

"The Bitter made Sweet" Exodus 15:22-27
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus and how He is present in all of scripture as well as our lives today. Even when we feel like we are alone and wandering aimlessly, God is still there, present and listening. He not only rescues us, but transforms us. Because we were first forgiven, we can now extend forgiveness and grace to others in our life who might cause bitterness in our lives.

"Dad's got a knife" Exodus 12
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture as well as our lives today. As we look at the story of God delivering His people out of Egypt, we can see how this pointed towards Jesus being the promised savior. God was just and loving to the Israelites and those in Egypt, as He both required a price to be paid but also was loving to allow a substitute to take their place. God did not merely liberate them, but set them free to live with their eyes on God. We too can live free because of the salvation we receive from our perfect substitute.

"The Test & the Provision" Genesis 22:1-19
This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus and the gospel story as well as how He continues to impact our lives today. We are joined by guest speaker Nick Cady of White Fields Community Church as he shares how the gospel message was present during Abraham's test of faith. It revealed to Abraham and Isaac the true essence of faith that Abraham had and the submission that Isaac showed in response. This was ultimately a precursor to the demonstration of love that God showed for us as he sent Jesus to rescue us from our sins.
