Episode 82: David Artman (Part 4 of 4) - “Stump the Universalist: Hell Edition.”

(Part 4 of 4) Hey everyone, welcome back to Jesus the Legend! I’m super happy because we’ve got David Artman back with us! If you've listened to our podcast before, you already know David. He’s a husband, musician, minister, author, podcaster, and one of the leading voices in Christian universalism. He’s the author of Grace Saves All: The Necessity of Christian Universalism and host of the Grace Saves All podcast, which was probably the biggest influence on me as I walked through and came to embrace this truth. Last time David was on, we played a little game called “Stump the Universalist.” I came armed with some of the Scriptures that are often considered the toughest passages for Christian universalism, and David took on the challenge of explaining how he understands them. The only problem was… we ran out of time. David had done all that preparation, I still had Scriptures left on my list, and so, apparently, I owed him another podcast! So today, we’re picking up right where we left off and diving into more of those difficult passages — the Scriptures that seem, at least on the surface, to make a strong case against universalism. Once again, I’ll be playing the role of the guy arguing for eternal conscious torment — which, just to be clear, I absolutely do not believe — and David will walk us through how he understands these challenging texts. So grab a drink, settle in, and let’s see if we can finally make it through the list… and maybe, just maybe, stump the universalist. Intro/outro music licensed from Soundstripe (soundstripe.com)

   Episode 80: Jamie Englehart (Part 2 of 2) - “Myths & Mistranslations.”

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Jesus the Legend. Today I’m really excited to welcome back someone who’s been on the show before—Jamie Englehart. If you caught our first conversation, you already know you need to stick around for this one as well. Jamie has such a beautiful way of seeing the Gospel, revealing truth, and pointing us back to Jesus. Jamie is the author of Myths & Mistranslations: Unpacking 70 Misconceptions About God and the Bible, and that’s what we’re going to dig into today. Because let’s be honest—we can all carry ideas about God and the Bible that we've heard so many times that we assume they must be true. Sometimes those ideas come from tradition, sometimes from the way Scripture has been translated, and sometimes from interpretations that simply don't hold up when we take a closer look at the text and, most importantly, look at it through the revelation of Jesus. So today, we're going to unpack some of those commonly held beliefs and ask some important questions: What have we misunderstood? What has been mistranslated? And how does seeing these things differently change the way we understand God, Scripture, and our relationship with Him? So get comfortable, settle in, and let’s dive in and see what Jamie has to say as we unpack some of these myths and mistranslations. Intro/outro music licensed from Soundstripe (soundstripe.com)
