Thanks for listening to jhu podiΦ! We are the Johns Hopkins University aKDPhi chapter coming to you from bedrooms all over the world. Our topics range from everyday conversations to pressing topics that peers our age should know about. Hopefully through our podcast, we help students stay connected to each other and society. We update monthly on Thursdays. Stay connected! Stay tuned!
As members of a sorority, we are going to take you through our thoughts on joining Greek Life, including the pros and cons of Greek Life, and the more sensitive topic–rape culture in Greek Life. Unlike the previous episodes, this episode is a more informal conversation, so sit through and enjoy! The hosts for this week are Alyssa Lee, Melody Lee, and Susan Liu.
The song section for this week is brought to you by Jennifer Gao. She explains the history of slut-shaming, which is a common form of victim-blaming, through the story of a Geisha (Chinese opera actor). The song presented is a Mandarine song called Chief Red (赤伶 or Chi Ling) by the Chinese singer HITA (彌兒). Feel free to check out the music video for this song on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmAd4__qiG8) for a better idea of the story behind the song!
