Two Networks, One Voice: FOX vs. CBS in 1997
In 1997, Joe Cipriano was the voice of comedy for two competing television networks at once: FOX and CBS. Joe tells the behind-the-scenes story of how former FOX marketing executive Ron Scalera brought him to CBS, why the network wanted his energetic FOX sound, and what happened when FOX discovered its longtime promo voice was also working for the competition.
Then Joe rewinds to the fall 1997 sitcom wars with original FOX and CBS promos for The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Everybody Loves Raymond, Cosby, The Nanny and more. He revisits CBS's Friday Night Block Party, built around former ABC favorites Family Matters and Step by Step, along with the short-lived Meego and The Gregory Hines Show. Plus, forgotten comedies including George & Leo and Between Brothers—and a chance to play FOX or CBS?
And as if promoting fourteen comedies across two networks wasn't enough, Joe was also announcing Pictionary with Alan Thicke every other weekend at CBS Television City, on the same stage as The Price Is Right. Two networks, one voice, and one very tired car.

Cape Feare & Woo-Hoo and D'oh!
It's October 1993, and Sideshow Bob is back on The Simpsons, stepping on one rake after another in one of the most memorable comedy moments in television history! Joe rewinds to Thursday, October 7, 1993, for a classic FOX lineup featuring The Simpsons, The Sinbad Show, In Living Color and Herman's Head. He revisits the legendary 'Cape Feare' episode and the story behind its unforgettable rake gag.
Then it's 'Woo-Hoo! and D'oh!'—the highs and lows of landing the coveted time slot immediately following The Simpsons. It sounded like a guaranteed hit, but shows including Drexell's Class, The Sinbad Show, Hardball, House of Buggin' and The Critic discovered that keeping the Simpsons audience was no easy feat.
With original FOX promos, short-lived sitcom memories and stories from the network's comedy promo booth, Joe looks back at the shows that came and went in one of television's toughest half-hours.

FOX's All-Comedy Sunday & Behind the Mic at the Emmys
Joe rewinds to September 30, 1990, when the three-and-a-half-year-old FOX Network turned its entire Sunday night over to comedy. Six shows ran back-to-back from 7 to 10 PM: True Colors, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, In Living Color, Get a Life, Married... with Children and Good Grief. With vintage FOX promos and clips from that night, Joe revisits the lineup—including the Married... with Children episode "Al... with Kelly," which drew an impressive 22.8 million viewers. Then Joe takes you somewhere viewers almost never get to go: inside the announcer's booth at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Using rare behind-the-scenes video from the 60th Primetime Emmys in 2008, Joe shares what it was like rehearsing—and then announcing the show live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. It was Joe's third time announcing the Primetime Emmys, with Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum, Jeff Probst, Ryan Seacrest and Howie Mandel serving as the night's five hosts. Episode23_FINAL
And there's a connection between the two stories: Howie Mandel—star of FOX's Good Grief in 1990, later the host Joe announced on Deal or No Deal, and one of the five hosts Joe introduced on Emmy night in 2008. From a FOX sitcom to a game-show phenomenon to television's biggest awards stage, it's another unexpected trip through Joe's life behind the microphone. Episode23_FINAL
