Welcome to Episode 27 of Pro Wrestling Spotlight REWIND. Today's episode features an original episode of the historic talk show, hosted by John Arezzi. On this episode we share the original uncut broadcast of show number 72 of the Pro Wrestling Spotlight, which aired August 19th, 1990 on 1440 AM WNYG in Babylon New York. On this episode we welcome special guest - the newly crowned NWA World Heavyweight Champion STING, who comes on to promote his re-match against Ric Flair at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, as well as his appearance at the Wrestling Fans Fantasy Weekend (the first ever fans convention promoted by John Arezzi). Other guests include (the late) Dennis Brent - editor of the NWA Wrestling Wrap Up - with PWS News Capsule reporter Donny Laible. An announcement is also made of the show moving to a larger radio station - marking this broadcast the last at WNYG. NOTE: The final 15 minutes of the program were not recorded and ends at the 45 minute mark. Vince McMahon Press Conference on Steroid Scandals from July 1991
Welcome to Episode 26 of Pro Wrestling Spotlight REWIND. Today's episode features an original uncut episode of the historic talk show, hosted by John Arezzi. On this episode we share the July 21st, 1991 broadcast of Pro Wrestling Spotlight, which aired on 1240 AM in West Babylon New York. On this episode we cover the Press Conference held on July 19th, 1991 at NYC's Plaza Hotel, held by Vince McMahon and WWF PR Director Steve Planamenta - to address the steroid scandals exploding at that time. Dr. George Zaharion (WWF Ringside Doctor in PA) was convicted by a jury for illegal distribution of Steroids, and McMahon needed to put water on that fire. The WWF attempted to control the media at that time and did not invite the Wrestling Press to attend (especially yours truly). I was able to get in using an alias, and confronted McMahon about it. All captured on tape. Later on the show - we featured reporter Alex Marvez of the Miami Herald to discuss the turmoil and the scandals. Also we promote Weekend of Champions, which became the largest wrestling fans convention of that era, with the convention featuring Ric Flair (his FIRST signing ever), Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino, Lou Thesz, Billy Graham, Fabulous Moolah and so many more!
