<p>From June 1, 1942, Lux Radio Theatre presents "Ball of Fire."</p><p>I love this comedy/romance for many reasons, but mostly for its use of slang from the era, which is a special interest of mine.</p><p>Fred MacMurray takes on the role of Professor Bertram Potts, played by Gary Cooper in the 1941 film. Barbara Stanwyck reprises her role as "Sugarpuss" O'Shea, a burlesque performer. Potts wants to update his encyclopedia entry on modern slang, and feels Sugarpuss will make the perfect source. What he doesn’t know is that Sugarpuss is the fiancée of a mobster wanted by the police. </p><p><br></p><p>MacMurray and Stanwyck were terrific in everything they did together, including the seminal Film Noir, DOUBLE INDEMNITY (1944) and REMEMBER THE NIGHT (1940), one of my favorite Christmas movies.</p>
