Wir ehren damit <strong>Joséphine Soliman (1772–1801)</strong>, eine außergewöhnliche Frau, die als Erste in der österreichischen Geschichte den Mut aufbrachte, offen gegen strukturellen Rassismus aufzubegehren.</p><p>Ihr Kampf war ein zutiefst persönlicher: Ihr Vater, der hochgeschätzte Intellektuelle und Freund Mozarts, <strong>Angelo Soliman</strong>, wurde trotz seines Prestiges Opfer der grausamen Entmenschlichung durch den Rassismus der Habsburgermonarchie. Joséphine kämpfte unermüdlich für die Würde ihres Vaters und gegen ein System, das Menschen nach ihrer Herkunft wertete.</p>

Farid Hafez on Governing Islam in Austria and Germany: From Colonial Times to the Present
<p>Professor Farid Hafez ist Politikwissenschaftler, Lehrender an der renommierten Universität College of William & Mary in Virginia sowie Senior Researcher an der Georgetown University. Am William & Mary College hält er Vorlesungen über rechtsextremen Populismus, Islamophobie, internationale Beziehungen und Terrorismus.</p><p>Derzeit befindet er sich auf Europatournee, um sein neues Buch <strong>„Governing Islam in Austria and Germany: From Colonial Times to the Present“ vorzustellen, das im April 2026 bei </strong><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://global.oup.com/academic/product/governing-islam-in-austria-and-germany-9780197823408"><strong>Oxford University Press</strong></a><strong> </strong>erschienen ist. Am vergangenen Montag, dem 8. Juni 2026, war er zu Gast bei Katharina Ivanyi, Professorin am Institut für Orientalistik der Universität Wien. In diesem Interview resümiert Farid Hafez die Ergebnisse seiner Forschung, die sich über einen Zeitraum von 150 Jahren erstreckt, und ermutigt junge Menschen, sich von rassistischen Strukturen nicht entmutigen zu lassen. Er selbst, so erzählt er, wurde von seiner damaligen Schullehrerin nie an einem Gymnasium gesehen. Das Buch ist noch nicht auf Deutsch erschienen. Ein Interview von simon INOU.</p>

Völkermord-Überlebende Dimitrie Sissi Mukanviligara: "Warum habe ich überlebt und nicht die anderen?"
<p>Das war am 28. April 2026 bei der Buchvorstellung von Dimitrie Sissi Mukanviligara in der Wiener Buchhandlung <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bibliobox.at/"><strong>Bibliobox</strong></a>. „Do not accept to die“ oder auf Deutsch „Akzeptiere einfach nicht, zu sterben“ ist der Titel ihres Buches. Darin erzählt Frau Mukanviligara als Völkermord-Überlebende aus Ruanda ihre Erinnerungen, damit wie sie sagt, „die Getöteten nicht zum zweiten mal sterben“.
