Sexual Ethics in the Torah (Phone Call with Moose Bergonzi)
A simple question prompted this podcast episode. I came across what at a surface level appeared to be a contradiction between two commands given in the Torah. One command is found in Leviticus 20:21 and the other is found in Deuteronomy 25:5-6.
Initially, it seemed like one passage was forbidding a man from marrying his deceased brother's wife while the other was commanding it as a duty in order to provide the surviving widow with a son to carry on the family name. So, I called my good friend Moose to see what his thoughts were on this matter, and the following enlightening conversation ensued. Enjoy!

Leviticus 20:21 - "If there is a man who takes his brother’s wife, it is abhorrent [an impure deed]; he has uncovered his brother’s nakedness. They will be childless."
Deuteronomy 25:5-6 - "When brothers live together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the deceased shall not be married outside the family to a strange man. Her husband’s brother shall go in to her and take her to himself as wife and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her. It shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall assume [stand on] the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel."

Let's Talk About Porn
Porn. It's impossible to escape it. It's as ubiquitous as the air we breathe nowadays, and it comes in many forms. Men and women both struggle with it and are forced to deal with the ensuing shame, deserved or otherwise. It's unfortunate that young people are not better equipped to deal with their sex drives.
In light of this real need, I decided to share some of my thoughts and offer a clarifying perspective along with some meandering advice and insights on how to navigate this complex topic. I hope you find it helpful. Things aren't as bleak as you might have been taught to think.

You Don't Understand "Forgiveness"
I felt compelled to record this episode in the wake of the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk. His widow, Erika Kirk, gave a speech at her late husband's memorial service which sparked some controversy due to the fact that she offered her husband's murderer "forgiveness." Or did she?
What does it actually mean to forgive someone?
In this episode, I dig into biblical passages throughout the old and new testaments and exegete the texts in order to bring to light the true meaning of forgiveness. This is a topic I have been contemplating for about a decade now, and it hits close to home. I hope it will illuminate your understanding of this grossly misunderstood term. Forgiveness; it's not what you think it is.
