Stealth Gave Me Safety, But It Cost Me Community | Chloe Says Hello

What does it cost to stay hidden when hiding is also what keeps you safe? In this episode of Kaleidoscope, Rae and Luigi are joined by UK creator Chloe, @chlo.says.hello, for a conversation about transition, stealth, community, identity and the complicated relationship between safety and visibility. Chloe spent years living stealth before becoming more open about being a trans woman. While stealth gave her a degree of protection, it also created distance between her and the community she wanted to be part of. As she puts it, "Stealth gave me safety, but it cost me community." The Edits Rae shares a different version of the same contradiction. She is openly trans online while navigating a professional life where visibility can have real consequences. Both Rae and Chloe discuss experiences of workplace discrimination, including being outed through HR and losing jobs shortly afterwards. The Edits The conversation explores what it means to find community when parts of yourself have to remain hidden, and how small signals can create unexpected connections. Chloe explains that she first reached out to Rae after recognizing the meaning behind the username FireFromHeat, a phrase with particular significance in transfeminine voice training. The Edits They also discuss voice training, passing, bathrooms, gender confirmation surgery, the fear of regret, social media, online identity and the pressure placed on creators to reduce themselves to simple and recognizable brands. Chloe reflects on how social platforms encourage people to become highly concentrated versions of themselves, rewarding consistency while discouraging the messier reality of being a complete person with many interests and identities. The Edits The conversation eventually turns toward agency. Chloe argues that perhaps we should not simply think of ourselves as the main characters in our lives, but as the directors, capable of changing a script that no longer works for us. Rae sums it up simply: trans people exemplify agency. The Edits From choosing when to come out to making life-changing decisions about transition, work and the future, this episode asks a broader question: How much of our lives do we surrender because we are afraid of what might happen if we change them? Kink, Radical Feminism and the Politics of Sex with Tara Knight

Tara Knight went from running a kink meme page to describing herself as a radical feminist deeply critical of the way sex operates under patriarchy. So how does that happen? In this episode of Kaleidoscope, Rae and Tara trace the experiences, relationships and ideas that changed the way they think about sex, desire, femininity and power. Tara discusses her experiences in kink spaces, her introduction to radical feminist writing and her argument that sex cannot be separated completely from the political structures surrounding it. Rae approaches those ideas from her own history with masculinity, sexuality, kink, transition and the process of dismantling beliefs she grew up with. Their conversation moves through consent, objectification, pornography, sexual liberation, detransition and retransition, trans-inclusive radical feminism, gender abolition, Marxism and the relationship between trans women and the broader political category of womanhood. They also ask a more difficult question: If our desires are influenced by the society that produced us, does understanding where those desires came from mean we have to stop enjoying them? There are disagreements, jokes, tangents and moments where both speakers have to stop and define exactly what they mean. In other words, Kaleidoscope. Content note: Strong language and frank discussion of sex, kink, pornography, misogyny, transphobia, sexual objectification and detransition. Topics / keywords Radical feminism, trans feminism, kink, pornography, sex and politics, patriarchy, consent, desire, objectification, sexual liberation, trans women, transsexual identity, gender abolition, Marxist feminism, detransition, retransition, LGBTQ culture, feminist theory Optional hashtags for platforms that support them #KaleidoscopePodcast #Feminism #TransWomen #QueerPodcast #RadicalFeminism

Trans, Political and Chaotic with Margot the Cat Girl

Rae sits down with Margot the Cat Girl, trans woman, trans feminist, political creator, musician, and self-described anarcho-syndicalist, for a conversation that covers political theory, transition, internet culture, queer visibility, healthcare, and the occasional bit of chaotic-neutral energy. Margot talks about growing up trans in the UK, coming out, finding her way to HRT, and navigating a healthcare system where waiting lists and gatekeeping have pushed many trans people toward DIY care. Rae and Margot compare their experiences of transition in the UK and China, including the strange and sometimes brutal barriers that can sit between you and care. From there, things get political. They unpack anarcho-syndicalism, and the difficulty of confronting systems like capitalism, patriarchy, racism, colonialism, homophobia and transphobia when none of them exist independently of one another. The conversation also turns toward online political culture: Tara Knight / Bundle of Sticks, criticism within leftist spaces, consent discourse, and what happens when disagreement becomes personal. Margot reflects on becoming an increasingly visible trans political creator in the UK, the creators who inspired her, and the reality of suddenly having thousands of people form opinions about you. Rae and Margot talk about parasocial relationships, compliments, dysphoria, gender envy and learning not to let strangers on the internet determine how you feel about your own appearance. They also explore the limitations of short-form content and why some conversations simply cannot survive being compressed into 60 or 90 seconds. Later, the conversation moves into trans visibility itself: the value of queer creators who are not necessarily political, the importance of giving people a human entry point into trans lives, and the impact creators such as F1NN5TER, Icky, Abigail Thorn and others can have simply by existing visibly online. And finally, Rae and Margot get into something considerably less theoretical: when is being visibly trans worth the risk? They discuss stealth, code-switching, personal safety, survival, medical gatekeeping, passing, dysphoria and much more. It is political. It is personal. It occasionally goes completely off the rails. So, naturally, it is Kaleidoscope. In this episode: • Margot’s transition and growing up trans in the UK • DIY HRT and barriers to gender-affirming healthcare • Anarcho-syndicalism • Mutual aid • Intersections, patriarchy and queer oppression • Tara Knight / Bundle of Sticks and online leftist discourse • Consent beyond sex • Parasocial relationships • Dysphoria, passing, FFS and gender envy • Short-form politics versus long-form nuance • Being a trans political creator in the UK • Queer creators, representation and trans visibility • F1NN5TER, Icky and queer people online • Stealth, code-switching and staying safe • Comparing transition gatekeeping in China and the UK • Rae’s post-surgery recovery • Margot’s music and what she is working on next Find Margot Instagram and most platforms: @MargotTheCatGirl Twitch: SixTheCatGirl Facebook: Margot Taylor Music: Margot Taylor Band: The Wot Now?
